Community Spotlight Rev. Scott Lambert Greetings in the name of our Lord. I can hardly believe we are just weeks away from Christmas. I know that you are just like me - this time of year brings joy to us all. Christmas brings us great joy because of the Love that God has for us. The greatest gift has already been given for us. John 3:16 tells us For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever would believe in him should not perish but have everlasting life. Oh, my friends, he was delivered by a young lady named Mary. He came as a baby, but he grew into a man and went to a hill called Calvary, and when he got there, he hung on a cross and shed his innocent blood. Why did he do this? So that our sins could be covered and forgiven. Jesus is the reason for the season. Let us reflect on his love during this season and every day. I Love you all. Fun Facts Many countries in Europe celebrate the Feast of Sinterklaas also known as St. Nicholas on the eve of December 6th. The first Christmas card design is thought to have been printed in England in 1843. The design was of a family party, beneath which were the words A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to You. Kwanzaa was introduced in 1966 and named for the time of year when African tribes traditionally celebrated the first harvest of their crops. The belief in the deadly poison of the poinsettia is a myth. The truth is that poinsettias are only mildly toxic. Evergreen branches were first used in ancient solstice festivals to symbolize life, as they stayed green in winter. This tradition was absorbed by Christians. Welcome New Residents!
