Certificate in Lay Worship Leading Ministry 2018-2019

Mission & Development Team Diocese of Peterborough Supporting church leaders & parishes, to flourish & grow as the body of Christ, engaged in God's mission in the world

Introduction The Diocese of Peterborough offers the opportunity for lay people who are or will be involved in services within their parish or benefice to receive some theological training with some practical guidance and receive accreditation. This will be at the invitation of their incumbent, who will supervise their ministry. On successful completion of the training you will receive a Certificate signed by the Bishop which will be presented to you by your incumbent. This will give you accreditation for the work you do in your benefice. Length of training The training will take place over the course of one year between September and April, held in Northampton. Syllabus You will do four modules, three taught over a period of six evenings; and one as a project There will be a task to complete in-between sessions You will need to complete an assignment following each module, which may be written or practical

Module 1: Planning and preparing for worship the shape of worship and elements to consider different styles of worship planning a service Common Worship liturgies and resources leading intercessions giving a short talk and ways of enabling response to the word This module will include some presentation work Module 2: Introduction to Studying the Bible This module will help you get a grasp of the content of the Bible in its context, including the different types of writing, the particular role of the Old and New Testaments, and a variety of ways of reading the Bible. Insights into how to approach Bible texts will be gained as major biblical themes are examined. Consideration will be given to how this applies to leading services. Module 3: Creative Use of Resources sound & projection music in worship leading worship with young people leading worship when children are present leading worship with non-church people leading worship with people with dementia Module 4: Project An opportunity to reflect upon worship in different contexts.

Locations Northampton and Peterborough Safeguarding DBS CHECKS: Those selected for training on Certificate Courses must ensure that they have applied for a DBS check and sent their DBS certificate to Revd Dr Linnet Smith before the end of August. You will not be allowed to start the course unless this has happened. DBS certificates for other roles cannot be accepted in this context. When completing the application please give pastoral worker as the position applied for. SAFEGUARDING TRAINING: You are required to attend a diocesan safeguarding training session during your certificate year (dates for these can be found on the diocesan website). Once you have your certificate, it is your responsibility and that of your parish to ensure that you refresh this training every three years. When can I apply? NOW!!
