JAN PEEK SHELTER NEEDS HELP For a number of years, St. Columbanus has provided a dinner for the Jan Peek Shelter on the first Saturday of each month. The same handful of parishioners have been participating so we re hoping to get a few new volunteers willing to step up; namely, anyone able to cook dinner for approximately 20 people, once a year. If you cannot cook the entire meal, perhaps you could prepare one course. Please call Jeni Schutrick-Vitiello (914-930-8605) if you can lend a hand. Thank you for helping out in this small but meaningful way. NATIONAL NIGHT OF PRAYER FOR LIFE St Columbanus will again participate in the annual Prayer Vigil for Life. The vigil will begin at 9p.m. on Tues. Dec 8, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and end at 1 a.m., Wed. Dec 9. Please consider joining us in the Rosary for Life each hour. The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed throughout the evening. Coffee and refreshments will also be available downstairs in the library throughout the night. During the Holy Hour of Unity, 12 midnight 1 a.m. EST we will be united with churches across the country in prayer to end abortion and to restore God s blessing of Life and Religious Liberty in America. COLUMBIETTE NEWS The 50/50 raffle amount has grown to $770.00. This may not be much now, but as time goes by and more tickets are bought, the amount can only grow. Tickets are only $5.00 each. DECEMBER 6, 2015 ST. COLUMBANUS CHURCH_ 481/PAGE4 Last week I should have thanked the Parish Council for the refreshments for the Mass for St. Columbanus. I mistakenly credited the Rosary Altar for that. However, it was the Rosary Altar that was responsible for the beautiful banner of St. Columbanus that now hangs in our church sanctuary. I hope it will help to foster greater devotion to our patron saint as we pray for our own personal needs and those of the parish. We thank Fr. Tim Mulroy from the Columban Fathers for our Advent Mission. Besides deepening our appreciation for St. Columbanus, I hope it helped each of us in beginning to prepare our hearts for Jesus at Christmas. Beside the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception on Tuesday, December 8, the Year of Mercy proclaimed by our Holy Father, Pope Francis, begins. There will not be a Holy Hour on Monday since we will have the vigil Mass for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. We will also hold our annual National Night of Prayer for Life from 9:00 p.m. December 8 until 1:00 a.m., December 9. The national Night of Prayer for Life is held in hundreds of parishes throughout the country. Please come for one of the hours to pray God s mercy for our families and our country. On Saturday, December 12, our parish choir will host our first ever Festival of Lessons and Carols. This will be comprised of Advent scripture readings and hymns. I know the choir has been working hard. Earlier in the day the parish and choir will sing Christmas carols for those who are homebound. SCHOOL HAPPENINGS St. Columbanus School will be in session on Tuesday, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. The children will attend the 12:05 p.m. Mass. In anticipation of the Christmas season, Santa s elves have been very busy at St. Columbanus School, helping with Santa s Secret Workshop. The children enjoyed the opportunity to shop for gifts for their families. Many thanks to Mrs. Maria Morriss and her team for their hard work on behalf of our students. CHRISTMAS FOOD BASKETS Many thanks for the Thanksgiving food donations. Now we begin collecting for our Christmas baskets! Produce, turkeys, along with canned/boxed items (veggies, stuffing, gravy, etc.) are welcome. Nonperishable items may be left in the elevator vestibule (not the food bin). Please bring any items needing refrigeration to the rectory. MERRY CHRISTMAS! CAMP FATIMA AND CAMP BERNADETTE Camp Fatima for boys and Camp Bernadette for girls are now accepting registrations for the 2016 summer season. About St. Columbanus: Because of his constant traveling throughout the roads of Europe to spread the faith, St. Columbanus is the patron saint of motorcyclists. In Jesus and Mary, Fr. Frank Samoylo CANDLELIGHT CHRISTMAS CONCERT The Church of the Assumption in Peekskill will be hosting a Candlelight Christmas Concert on Friday, December 11, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served after the concert.
