THE ROLE OF ISLAMIC EDUCATION IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF JAKARTA IN MULTICULTURAL SOCIETY Untoro dan Farhana Faculty of Faw, Jakarta Islamic University Email: untoro_uid@yahoo.co.idand frh961@gmail.com Abstract The role of Islamic Education in development era cannot be denied.the development which is grounded in the values of Islam rahmatan lil alamiin does not cause social jealousy, further, it will not create conflict in the community. The conflicts arise because of the assumption to certain ethnics who see there is a huge gab in the community. There are people who get benefit a lot from it, while other people are marginalized. In the perspective of Islamic educational purposes, the creation of human is to create individuals servants of Allah who are always devoted to Him, and can achieve a happy life in this world and the hereafter (QS. Al- Dzariat: 56); and (QS. Ali Imran: 102). In the context of personal sociology, becoming rahmatan lil alamiin is both in small and large scale. Development in Jakarta today which is still hotly discussed is reclaimed G island in the coastal areas north of Jakarta. People believe that this project does not reflect rahmatan lil alamiin value. It can be seen from demonstration or action that refuse reclamation, further, it appeals to the State Administrative Court. This condition should be a major concern, so it will not cause radicalization in society that will disrupt diversity (multicultural) in soci- 315

International Seminar on Islamic Civilization ety in general and in Jakarta in particular, because of jealousy as a result of economic disparities. Furthermore, this situation can be more worse effect the Jakarta Provunce General Election, it is also resistant to be used by some people to promote diversity in ethnicity, religion, race. Surat Ar Rum paragraph 4 have signaled the mischief on the earth because it caused by the act of human. In conclusion, there are three components to be used as a foundation in Islamic educationbased multicultural resulting in a perfect man, namely: Al- Qur an, As-sunna, and Islamic culture. In the end it able to shield from radicalism attitude in a multicultural society. Keywords: Islamic Education, Development, Multicultural Society. A. Introduction Human nature according to Islam by referring to the holy book of the Qur an, the Prophet Hadiss and opinions of the scholars, are God s creatures created to be a leader on earth (kpageifa fil ard). Human existence and human values are determined by the functioning of the potential that exists within him 1. With this potential, man function is as as a leader for themselves, their families or communities, they should maximize this potential in order to have the properties of divinity. It is necessary to develop a good potential of human beings to progress morally, spiritually and intellectually. Therefore, in order to optimize human tasks as a servant of God and as a caliph on earth, Islamic education is needed. The Role of Islamic Education in The Development of Jakarta in... should be accompanied by the values that are controlled by faith. It is then reflects the relationship between faith and piety. Faith is the foundation while taqwa is the building. In a leader s heart should embed faith and piety, so as to realize Islam rahmatan lil alamiin, which is nonviolence. Since Islam is created by Allah tobring salvation, peace on earth. Social life guided by faith and piety is a life that does not harm each other, not against each other, not hate each other and do not speak against one another. In the case of G reclaimed island in the coastal area of North Jakarta, I think it does not reflect rahmatan lil alamiin value. It is characterized by the action of the refuse reclamation until filed a lawsuit to the State Administrative Court. Traditional fishing communities in the coastal areas of north Jakarta is socially marginal. This condition should be seen, further, we need the role of Islamic Higher Education, because there is a possibility that this condition will be used by certain people who want to confuse diversity in Jakarta by promoting diversity in ethnicity, religion, and race. From the explanation above, this paper is entitled: The Role of Islamic Education in the Development of Jakarta in the Middle of Multicultural Society. With the formulation of the problem is how the concept of Islamic Education in the development of Jakarta in the middle of a multicultural society which can be applied so as to fortify the behavior of radicalism. 317

Islamic education plays an important role in offering the Deen of Islam as a beautiful way in accordance with the predicate as religion rahmatan lil alamiin. Under this framework, I explain the notion of a perfect man concept formation as proof of the role of Islamic Education in the development in Jakarta in particular which were able to protect the multicultural and non-violence society 2. From the chart above, it can be explained that the Qur an, the Sunnah and Islamis Cultureare the basis thought to analyze or to take action, thus it gives birth to Islamic thinking. Islamic culture is a culture that accepts multicultural. From Islamic thought will create Islamic philosophy, Islamic science and Islamic culture. These three basis will be drawn to the analysis of man as an object that generated perfect man. Perfect man is the dream of every human being, both as individuals and as a human leader. Leaders like this is able to keep the damage in the community of the dangers of radicalism. G island reclamation is still becoming the hottest issue in the development of Jakarta 3. Islamic concept of development can be started from the Quran surah Al-Dzariat paragraph 56 and the provisions of the Qur an letter of Ali Imran verse 102. The two letters in the Qur an describe the personal piety is capable of being a mercy for environment both small scale and large scale. The Qur an has explained the relationship between faith and piety. With faith and piety, it will be obtained ritual piety and social piety. Therefore, there is an indicator that must be treated related to the ups and downs of faith and piety of a Muslim. The best man in Islam is capable of enforcing ritual piety and social piety. Ritual piety must be accompanied by social piety. To be the best man, a man should not only concerned on the product, but also the process as well. The Qur an also has mentioned in Surat Ar Rum paragraph 4, the existence of corruption on earth because of human activities. This damage is caused by human hands (aidinnaas), the notion of human hands could mean giving a misguided policy, granting a less cautious. 4 This is Islamic education which have developed human life begins with monotheism, from monotheism will be spread faith and aqidah will produce acts of worship and good deeds. Finaly, the acts of worship animated by faith istiqomah will create pious Muslim life attitude. Living in national level, if piety became the basis in ruling the govenrment, it will give birth to a good life under the God s blessing. Since leader both in central and local govenrment is the role model for people who are capable of enforcing security and peace, justice, has the properties of taqwa.then I am prety sure that the country will be fair and prosperous. C. CONCLUSION The role of Islamic Education in every dimension of life is necessary, including the development ofjakarta Province. The development does not cause social jealousy, because it will lead to trouble in a multicultural society and potentially create radical action. Therefore piety ritual must be accompanied by social piety. To be the best man, a man should not only concerned on the product, but the process must also be considered as well.
