The e-link Jan 2019 Fairview United Methodist Church Maryville, Tennessee January 20 - January 26, 2019 From the Pastor s Desk Last Sunday afternoon, the elected leadership of Fairview UMC gathered for lunch and workshops to train them in their respective roles for 2019. When I entered the gym where nearly 70 people had gathered, I was struck by the excitement in the room. The room was alive with conversations energizing the space. It was another one of those moments in my life that reminded me of how blessed I am to get to be in leadership and ministry with you here at Fairview. The energy and joy I experienced as I watched and listened to conversations, both in the serving line and around the tables, leads me to believe we have the right people in the right places of leadership. Gathered on Sunday afternoon were members of our Church Council, the Staff-Parish Relations Committee, the Finance Committee, the Nominations Committee, the Board of Trustees and the Missions Committee. Each of these teams were led in their hour-and-a-half workshop by either their chairperson, a staff member, or someone with experience in their particular area. I am grateful for each of these leadership groups, their love for Fairview Church, and their commitment to the Kingdom of God. Every year has its leadership challenges, and 2019 will not be an exception. Please pray for the leadership of your church. Please pray for our denomination as we approach The Called Session of The General Conference of The United Methodist Church, as our denominational leaders meet together February 23-26. We are asked to pray for this event every day, either afternoon or early morning from 2:23-2:26 (4 minutes). Each January since I arrived we have gathered for a Church Family Meeting. This year s meeting is coming up, January 27 at 5:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend. We will recognize our church leadership, distribute copies of what we call The Annual Report, hear a presentation from our Vision Committee about our new Mission Statement, and have time for Q & A. While none of us know what lies ahead for us as individuals, or for the life of our church, I believe last year was a time in which some new things began to come together in such a way that will make this year a great year. I am excited about our ministry together in 2019. I invite you to engage as fully as you are able as we seek God s Kingdom together. With my love and prayers, Pastor Mickey Download the Fairview Church app today!
