Prelude The Lord s Service Sanctity of Human Life Sunday January 20, 2019 *Standing together is our ordinary practice, but you are welcome to remain seated. *Song of Praise with Greeting My Heart Is Filled My heart is filled with thankfulness to Him who bore my pain; Who plumbed the depths of my disgrace and gave me life again; Who crushed my curse of sinfulness and clothed me with His light And wrote His law of righteousness with pow r upon my heart. My heart is filled with thankfulness to Him who walks beside; Who floods my weaknesses with strength and causes fears to fly. Whose ev ry promise is enough for ev ry step I take. Sustaining me with arms of love and crowning me with grace. My heart is filled with thankfulness to Him who reigns above; Whose wisdom is my perfect peace, whose ev ry thought is love. For ev ry day I have on earth is given by the King. So I will give my life, my all, to love and follow Him. (Getty, 2003 Thankyou Music) Welcome and Announcements 2

God Calls Us In silent meditation, let us prepare to meet the gracious God in worship. *Call to Worship Isaiah 25.1 LEADER: O Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you; PEOPLE: I will praise your name, for you have done wonderful things, plans formed of old, faithful and sure. *Hymn No. 660 O God beyond All Praising *Invocation Elder Ken Henry God Cleanses Us Reading of the Law of God Nehemiah 9.1-3 LEADER: Now on the twenty fourth day of this month the people of Israel were assembled with fasting and in sackcloth, and with earth on their heads. PEOPLE: And the Israelites separated themselves from all foreigners and stood and confessed their sins and the iniquities of their fathers. LEADER: And they stood up in their place and read from the Book of the Law of the Lord their God for a quarter of the day; PEOPLE: For another quarter of it they made confession and worshiped the Lord their God. 3

Whether seated or kneeling, let us approach the Lord together with a posture of reverence. Corporate Confession of Sin (in unison) Most merciful Father; we acknowledge and confess before You our many sins. We have transgressed Your holy laws; we have neglected Your Word and ordinances; we have walked in our own ways and fulfilled the desires of our own hearts. By our neglect and selfishness we have injured others, hurt our own souls, and grieved Your Holy Spirit. Most gracious God, who pardons and forgives all that repent and believe Your Gospel; show Your mercy upon us, and for the sake of Your beloved Son, our only Mediator, forgive us our offenses. Increase in us the grace of repentance, that we may not only confess our sins, but forsake them with our whole heart, and bring forth the fruits of holiness and righteousness; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Assurance of Pardon Lamentations 3.22-25 LEADER: Lift up your heads and hear the Good News: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, says my soul, therefore I will hope in Him. The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. The peace of the Lord be with you! PEOPLE: And also with you! *Hymn No. 465 Marvelous Grace of Our Loving Lord 4

God Consecrates Us Old Testament Reading Elder Mark Wilson Psalm 51.1-19 (p. 474) LEADER: This is the Word of the Lord. PEOPLE: Thanks be to God. Presentation of Tithes and Offerings Offertory Anthem I Will Arise Choir I will arise and go to Jesus, He will embrace me in His arms, In the arms of my dear Saviour, Oh! There are ten thousand charms. Teach me some melodious sonnet sung by flaming tongues above, Praise the mount, I m fixed upon it, mount of Thy redeeming love. Come, thou fount of ev ry blessing, tune my heart to sing Thy grace, Streams of mercy never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise. I will arise and go to Jesus He will embrace me in His arms, In the arms of my dear Savior, Oh! There are ten thousand charms. (Shaw/Parker,1960 Lawson-Gould Music Publishers, Inc.) *Doxology No. 733 Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below: alleluia, alleluia! Praise Him above, ye heavenly host, Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia! *Prayer of the Church Pastor Mullinax 5

*Hymn God of Grace God of grace, amazing wonder, irresistible and free. Oh the miracle of mercy, Jesus reaches down to me. God of grace, I stand in wonder as my God restores my soul. His own blood has paid my ransom; awesome cost to make me whole. God of grace, Who loved and knew me long before the world began. Sent my Saviour down from heaven; perfect God and perfect Man. God of grace I trust in Jesus, I'm accepted as His own. Every day new grace sustains me as I lean on Him alone. God of grace, I stand astounded, cleansed, forgiven, and secure. All my fears are now confounded and my hope is ever sure. God of grace, now crowned in glory where one day I'll see Your face, And forever I'll adore You in Your everlasting grace. (Getty, 2003 Thankyou Music) Scripture Lesson Romans 3.1-8 (p. 940) Sermon LAW AND SIN Pastor Jones *Hymn No. 32 Great Is Thy Faithfulness *Confession of Faith (in unison) Westminster Confession of Faith, 134-136 LEADER: Which is the sixth commandment? The sixth commandment is, Thou shalt not kill. LEADER: What are the duties required in the sixth commandment?
