Who Was Jacob? 1. The son of Isaac, who was the son of Abraham: Part of the Line of Faith 2. The Father of the 12 Tribes 3. A Child of the Promise

19This is the account of the family line of Abraham s son Isaac. Abraham became the father of Isaac, 20and Isaac was forty years old when he married Rebekah daughter of Bethuel the Aramean from Paddan Aram and sister of Laban the Aramean. 21Isaac prayed to the Lord on behalf of his wife, because she was childless. The Lord answered his prayer, and his wife Rebekah became pregnant. Genesis 25:19-34 (NIV)

22The babies jostled each other within her, and she said, Why is this happening to me? So she went to inquire of the Lord. 23 The Lord said to her, Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you will be separated; one people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger. 24 When the time came for her to give birth, there were twin boys in her womb. Genesis 25:19-34 (NIV)

25The first to come out was red, and his whole body was like a hairy garment; so they named him Esau. 26After this, his brother came out, with his hand grasping Esau s heel; so he was named Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when Rebekah gave birth to them. 27 The boys grew up, and Esau became a skillful hunter, a man of the open country, while Jacob was content to stay at home among the tents. Genesis 25:19-34 (NIV)

28Isaac, who had a taste for wild game, loved Esau, but Rebekah loved Jacob. 29 Once when Jacob was cooking some stew, Esau came in from the open country, famished. 30 He said to Jacob, Quick, let me have some of that red stew! I m famished! (That is why he was also called Edom.) 31 Jacob replied, First sell me your birthright. 32 Look, I am about to die, Esau said. What good is the birthright to me? Genesis 25:19-34 (NIV)

33But Jacob said, Swear to me first. So he swore an oath to him, selling his birthright to Jacob. 34 Then Jacob gave Esau some bread and some lentil stew. He ate and drank, and then got up and left. So Esau despised his birthright. Genesis 25:19-34 (NIV)

The Promise of Transformation

Three Sets Of Brothers In Genesis: 1. Cain and Abel = False and True Worship 2. Ishmael and Isaac = Law and Faith 3. Esau and Jacob = Flesh and Spirit

Transformation Comes About Through The Prophecy And The Promise The LORD said to her, Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you will be separated; one people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger. Genesis 25:23 (NIV)

Transformation Comes About Through The Prophecy And The Promise The Prophecy was that there were going to be 2 nations and 2 natures. The Promise was that the second nature would be greater than the first, because of the power of God.

Transformation Comes About Through The Prophecy And The Promise For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. 1 Corinthians 15:22 (NIV)

Transformation Comes About Through The Prophecy And The Promise The PROMISE of God is the HOPE of His people!

Transformation Takes Us From The Flesh Into The Spirit Jacob replied, First sell me your birthright. Look, I am about to die, Esau said. What good is the birthright to me? Genesis 25:31-32 (NIV)

Transformation Takes Us From The Flesh Into The Spirit - Esau Was A Man Of The Flesh - Jacob Was A Man Of The Spirit

Transformation Takes Us From The Flesh Into The Spirit The Nature of the Flesh: 1. Values Appetites over the Blessings of God 2. Values Present over the Future 3. Values the Temporal over the Eternal

Transformation Takes Us From The Flesh Into The Spirit The Nature of the Spirit: 1. Pursues True Blessing 2. Waits for True Fulfillment 3. Chooses the Eternal over the Temporal

Transformation Takes Us From The Flesh Into The Spirit 24By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh s daughter. 25 He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. 26 He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward... Hebrews 11:24-28 (NIV)

Transformation Takes Us From The Flesh Into The Spirit 27By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king s anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible. 28 By faith he kept the Passover and the application of blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn would not touch the firstborn of Israel. Hebrews 11:24-28 (NIV)

Transformation Is The Process Of Walking In The Spirit So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. Galatians 5:16-17 (NIV)
