THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK Faith When God solves your problems, you have faith in his abilities; when God doesn't solve your problems, he has faith in your abilities

CALENDAR Monday 4 th :-St Mac Nissi, Oengus Mac Nissi took his name from his mother Ches of Ness. It is claimed that Patrick baptised him and taught him the psalms. He chose the district of Connor for his hermitage, but later became bishp of his clan. He died early in the 6 th century. Friday 8 th :-Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Saturday 9 th :-St Ciaran was born in Roscommon around 512. He came to Clonmacnois in January 545, where he founded a monastery which was to become one of the most renowned in Europe. He died at the age of 33 while the monastery was still been built. Bl. Frederick Ozanam, 1813-1853, was professor of Law at Lyon's and later professor of literature at the Sorbonne in Paris. As a student he formed a 'Conference of Charity' which became the Society of Vincent de Paul. The Irish National Grandparents Pilgrimage to Our Lady s Shirne in Knock on Sunday 10 th Sept. 2017 Pope Benedict XVI's Prayer for Grandparents Lord Jesus, you were born of the Virgin Mary the daughter of Saints Joachim and Anne. Look with love on grandparents the world over. Protect them! They are a source of enrichment for families, for the Church and for all of society. Support them! As they grow older, may they continue to be for their families strong pillars of Gospel faith, guardian of noble domestic ideals, living treasuries of sound religious traditions. Make them teachers of wisdom and courage, that they may pass on to future generations the fruits of their mature human and spiritual experience. Lord Jesus, help families and society to value the presence and roles of grandparents. May they never be ignored or excluded, but always encounter respect and love. Help them to live seirenely and to feel welcomed in all the years of life which you give them. Mary, Mother of all the living, keep grandparents constantly in your care, accompany them on their earthly pilgrimage, and by your prayers, grant that all families may one day be reunited in our heavenly homeland, where you await all humanity for the great embrace of life without end. Amen!

TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME 17 Let them both grow till the harvest (Mt 13:24-43) When I was a youngster the neighbours complained that I was taking apples from their gardens. Others complained that I was knocking at doors of elderly and running away. I remembered my parents taking me to task. They were realistic about weeds in the human make-up. They didn t try to white-wash. They knew weeds grow with the good. They encouraged the good. Attacking the neighbours who complain is not always the best wisdom. Our Father cares for us and our world, so we are good indeed, precious in His eyes. Only children seem to have honesty of saying: I m good. It is true. I ve found that when writing references, people rarely want to say something positive about themselves. I m only an ordinary 17-year-old, said a beautiful girl with a warm personality. It is as if we let weeds, weakness, occupy too much attention. We prefer to say we re half-empty rather than say we re half-full. Striving towards good, makes us more human. And helping others in their journey of life is the best weed killer. Sunday Mass Stories and Prayers Liam Hickey
