March 2015 NC Presbyterian Pilgrimage Newsletter A Letter from the Rector My Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I send you this blessing: Grace and peace be yours in abundance (1 Peter 1:2). I chose this scripture partly because it was a proclamation of blessing. A blessing that should and has been shouted from the mountaintops! Peter shouted it. Paul and John proclaimed it as well. Grace and peace be yours, guests of pilgrimage 132, and be yours in abundance. Grace and peace be yours, team of pilgrimage 132, and be yours in abundance. Grace and peace be yours, pilgrimage 4 th Day Community, and be yours in abundance. This pilgrimage movement has been such a blessing in my life and I ve seen it bless the lives of countless others. It only seemed appropriate that our scripture for the weekend be instilled with a blessing as well. And grace and peace are such powerful blessings! Grace that was given before we knew we needed it. Grace, that once received, breaks the chains of sin and death and proclaims the victory of Christ. Peace that is given as a fruit of our self-surrender and striving to become as Christ. There, nestled between grace and peace is where we truly come alive. There God can breathe life into our spirit and each other. It is where we thrive! God has assembled an amazing team for this weekend! Even now, He is preparing each of us to become Christ s Hands in Action (CHA). As the weekend quickly approaches, we invite the whole community to lift up both team and guests in prayer. We need your participation! Write Palanca letters. Join us at the Send-off and the Serenade and the Closing. Invite guests from your area to your Reunion Group, even if you don t know them! Come to the Ultreya on March 28 th at Highland Presbyterian Church to welcome the guests of NCPP 132 into the Pilgrimage family. I am counting on you! The team is counting on you! And, Christ is counting on you! God loves you and so do I! Eastern Council Moderator Roger Worthington Vice Moderator Peggy Grantonic Secretary Mira Kenney Leaders Mary Beck & Neill Legg Registrar Pam Falter Fourth Day/ Reunion Group Steve & Mareva Taylor Newsletter/Outreach Jennifer Matlack Palanca Bill McMillan Serenade Mike & Valen Fowler Operations David Spangler Pastor John Langham Moderator s Message I am pleased to let you know that the Eastern Conference Council and the State Leadership Council have been actively improving the Pilgrimage experience. Serving with devoted, enthusiastic, Christian leaders has been a blessing. There are wonderful days ahead. During these past months of work, I observed much prayer, respect, love and trust in the Holy Spirit as we debated several procedures, activities, and issues. This solidified my belief that Christ wants us to actively engage and change the world. God gave us different talents and experiences which we should share in community to seek a better understanding of Christian relationships. It s all for the glory of God. One of the biggest accomplishments has been to develop a standard agenda, script, and Pilgrims Guide for the three conferences and to develop a training manual with dedicated trainers. We hope that this will keep us from creeping away from the Pilgrimage Method as laid out for us by many devout individuals with particular focus on the work of Rev. Dr. Fred Larkin Keith in adapting the Cursillo for the Presbyterian Church. You may notice differences from previous weekends, so please accept things in the spirit of love. Big news. The North Carolina Presbyterian Pilgrimage has been holding weekends for 25 years. The State Council is working on a celebration for the Fall of 2015. Please let me know of any ideas you may have or if you would like to assist in planning the celebration. I look forward to seeing you at Serenade, Clausura, or Ultreya. 2015 promises to be another awesome year. In joyful service, Roger Worthington Eastern Council Moderator 5
