WELCOME TO PICTOU UNITED CHURCH Rev. Mary-Beth Moriarity B.A., B.Th., M.Div. David & Shelley Pos: Ministry of Music www.pictouunited.com January 13 th, 2019 First Sunday after Epiphany Everybody can be great, because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve... You don't have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love. Martin Luther King Jr. January 15 th, 1929 April 4 th, 1968 Music to Gather Us We Gather in Community As the music begins, we are invited to prepare ourselves for worship. Welcome & Announcements ~ Mission Moment Gathering Words ~ Moment To Pause Before us each day lies challenges, opportunities, possibilities. The choices we make craft us into who we are becoming. Today, may we ever open our eyes to the newness of our days. May we sense the surge of wonder just beneath the surface of the ordinary. May we be reminded of God s constant presence. May we find wisdom and meaning in each breaking moment. New life; Renewed energy; Deepening faith. As the Christ Candle Is Lit, We Sing In this moment, in this place, all is wonder, all is grace. In this moment, in this place, hope awaits. In this moment, in this place... peace awaits. In this moment, in this place joy awaits. In this moment, in this place love awaits. words & music by Trisha Watts ~ Season of the Spirit 2012-13 2

Ministry of Music Out of Deep, Unordered Water A Litany of Hope for Winter As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease. Genesis 8:22 The trees of the wood await spring s re-clothing; the branches will be green again: The sun will rise higher in our skies; its light will be warm upon our faces once more. The days will grow longer; light will push back the darkness. Seeds will germinate and grow; the flowers will bud and bloom. The ears of the wheat will form and ripen; the grass will grow to feed the cattle. Geese will return and fill the skies; birds will fill the land with song. Simon Taylor - Winter And So We Sing Ameni, ameni, amen, amen, amen, ameni More Voices 219 We Are Blessed Called to Be a Blessing Now more than ever let us be the ones who will not turn away. Let us be the ones who will go farther into the wreck and deeper into the rubble. Let us be the ones who will enter into the places of devastation beyond belief and despair beyond our imagining. 5
And there let us listen for the Spirit that brooded over the formless darkness, and there let us look again for the God who gathered up the chaos and began to create. Let us be the ones who will give ourselves to the work of making again and to the endless beginning of creation. from the writings of Jan Richardson Blessed Be! Blessed are we! We Go Out Singing Let s go out and love one another, pray and care for the people in need. Let s be a sign of the love from above, and let this spark be a fire indeed.
