Hosts Gary & Ann Robertson IPHC representatives to Israel Tuesday Feb 19 Day 1 USA Depart from a USA gateway to Newark International Airport and meet El Al flight 28 at 1:15 PM (Allow 3 hours connection time). Connect to Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv. Dinner and breakfast are served on board. Wednesday Feb 20 Day 2 Tel Aviv to the Galilee We will have an early morning arrival and we will use the day ahead of us for first acquaintance with Israel. We drive to old Joppa (Jaffa) and explore the 3000 years of history. This is the port King Solomon had used to import Cedar trees from Lebanon to built God s Temple. From here Jonah started his voyage to Nineveh. We will visit the house of Simon the Tanner; visit the Church named after St. Peter who had his vision here telling him to start converting the gentiles. Continue with a short drive through modern Tel Aviv and then we start north. We will drive along the Mediterranean coast to the ruins of the ancient Roman capital - Caesarea, built by Herod the Great in 22 B.C. Visit the Roman Theater, the Aqueduct and Herodian Port. Continue to Mt. Carmel, enjoy the magnificent panoramic view. Visit Muchraka, the location of Elijah's altar during his confrontation with the false prophets of Baal. We drive via the Valley of Armageddon to the excavation at Tel Megiddo; this is the Biblical site of Armageddon. Travel north along the coast to reach the ancient city of Akko, once the Capital of the Crusaders Christian Kingdom of Jerusalem. We will visit the underground Crusader city, the ancient port and shuk. Now we head east up the mountains of the lower Galilee, to Nazareth. This is where we have our first overnight in the Holy Land. Check into our hotel and enjoy dinner (D)
Thursday Feb 21 Day 3 From Nazareth to the Sea Of Galilee Following breakfast, we will visit the Church of the Annunciation and Mary's Well. We learn about the divine annunciation. Drive on to Cana of Galilee and visit the site of Jesus first miracle, turning water to wine. We will reach the shores of the Sea of Galilee and will take a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee to Ginossar where we visit the fishermen's boat found here and dated to Jesus' time. Our tour will continue to the Mount of Beatitudes, site of the Sermon on the Mount. On to Tabgha, site of the Miracle of the Loaves and Fishes. Eventually we arrive at Capernaum, the city of Jesus and Peter. View the ruins of the ancient synagogue; cross the Jordan River to the land of Gaderenes and visit Kursi the site of the miracles of Demons and swine. Arrive Tiberias for dinner and overnight. (B) (D) Friday Feb 22 Day 4 The road to Jerusalem This morning we drive up to Mt. Arbel and we will learn about the Jewish revolt against the Romans. We enjoy one of the best vista points overlooking the northern section of the Sea of Galilee and the area of Jesus early ministry. Now we will drive along the Sea of Galilee and arrive at Yardenit, the Baptismal Center on the Jordan River. Continue to Mount Gilboa, and retell the stories of King Saul fighting the Philistines and the heroic death of Jonathan. We will visit the Prophet Gideon's Spring and be reminded of the Biblical stories connected to this special site. On to the Tel of Jezreel, this is the location of Queen Jezebel's summer palace where we hear about the site's intimate connection with Old Testament events. From here we venture south towards the city of Jericho. We will see the Sycamore Tree, the ancient Tel, the spring of Elisha and the climax will be a cable car ride up Mt. Temptation with its extensive view of the Judean Desert. It is now a short drive uphill towards the holy city of Jerusalem. Dinner & overnight in Jerusalem. (B) (D)
Saturday Feb 23 Day 5 Jerusalem We start the day with a visit to the Garden Tomb; there will be time for prayer and reflection. We ll have a full orientation beside Calvary. Travel to the Old City and enter through St. Stephen's Gate to the Pool of Bethesda, the Chapel of the Flagellation, and the Ecce Homo Arch. View the Gabbatha pavement at the site of the Roman Antonia Fortress then proceed to the Temple area and Mt. Moriah to visit the Western Wall, and the Ophel Archaeological park. Here we see the Pinnacle, have a time of worship and prayer in The Upper Room, and visit the new Davidson visitors' center dedicated to research of the ancient Biblical Temple. Continue through the Bazaar to the last stations of the Via Dolorosa and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Dinner and overnight Jerusalem (B) (D). Sunday Feb 24 Day 6 Jerusalem Drive to Mount Scopus to view the impressive home of the Hebrew University. Then drive to the Mt. of Olives for an outstanding view of Jerusalem. Visit the Chapel of the Ascension, Garden of Gethsemane, and Church of All Nations. See the Kidron Valley and Tomb of Absalom, Zechariah and James. We continue to Mount Zion and climb the steps to the Room of the Last Supper. We stop at King David's Tomb. Drive over to the new section of Jerusalem and past the Israeli Knesset, seat of government of the State of Israel. Outside the Knesset is the famous Menorah with its seven branches. Each branch has scenes of the Old Testament depicted on it. We will visit the Israel Museum and the Shrine of the Book where we will see the Dead Sea Scrolls. Next visit the recently constructed Model of Ancient Jerusalem. Our last stop of the day is at the Yad Vashem Museum and Memorial to the Holocaust. Dinner and overnight Jerusalem (B) (D). Monday Feb 25 Day 7 Dead Sea, Bethlehem We travel south east out of Jerusalem. After stopping at the Inn of the "Good Samaritan" where we will see a beautiful collection of ancient mosaic floors found in the desert Byzantine ruins we will arrive at the shores of the Dead Sea - the lowest point on earth. We drive along the Dead Sea to Qumran where we will visit the site of the Essenes community the people who wrote the Dead Sea Scrolls View the caves where the scrolls were found in 1947. You ll have an opportunity to change into a bathing suite and time to float at the Dead Sea. Continue to Ein Gedi, where King David found shelter from the wrath of King Saul. After lunch, we will return to the Judea Mountains for a short visit of the city of Bethlehem the site of the nativity of Christ. Return to our hotel in the early evening. There is time to change, pack and get ready for your international flight back home.early farewell
