THOSE TO SERVE AT STONES RIVER MANOR on Wednesday, Oct. 8 th @ 6:15 Lead Singing J. J. Maxwell Opening Prayer J. J. Maxwell Speaker James Lively Closing Prayer Jerry Bowen Jamie's Journal There are two verses in Scripture that I would like to draw your attention to that deal with the company we keep. The first one that probably comes to your mind is found in I Corinthians 15:33 - Do not be deceived: Bad company corrupts good morals (NASB). How true and how often do we see this occur to folks we know, and perhaps to ourselves as well. Enough attention cannot be given to how our present companions are affecting our morals. It is so easy for one person to influence another. I remember that careless drivers never used to bother me until I started riding around with a friend of mine. He would yell and get so upset with others on the road that he thought were driving badly. Shortly after that ride with him, I found myself doing the same thing in my vehicle! On the other hand, there is a verse that describes positive relationships. It is found in Proverbs 27:17 -"Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another." Much ink has been spilt over how one can be a better person. Well, this little verse tells us that other people can make us better. If I want to be a better man, husband, preacher, son, brother, uncle, friend, employee, Christian, etc., then one sure way is to be around others who can inspire me. There have been many times that I have walked out of the company of others motivated and determined to do better in certain areas of my life. In just our congregation, we have the opportunity to be "sharpened" at least three times a week. What a blessing! You can help me to be more Christ-like, and vice versa. So if you want to be a better person than you are today, surround yourself with godly individuals and seek to learn from them. The loner, the one who secludes himself from others, according to this verse, must be in dire need of sharpening. Timothy had a Paul. Mark had a Barnabas. Who sharpens you? Did you know that there is a free Bible study software program that you can download from the internet? It is found at www.e-sword.net. I use this program and find it very helpful. A BIG thank you to all who prepared dishes for our fellowship meal last Lord's day. Everything was yummy and the fellowship was sweet. It was wonderful to have many visitors that day too! Jamie
