Year of Mercy-Saint of the Month St. Vincent De- Paul 1581-1660 In his native France, Vincent constantly sought out the poor in desperate situations, whom he believed the Lord had called him to care for personally. For this, he is known as the saint of charity. Our St. Vincent DePaul organization is named for him. They model the life that Vincent lived in caring for those on the margins. The main purpose for which God has called us is to love our Lord Jesus Christ. If we depart even slightly from the thought that the poor are members of Jesus Christ, infallibly they will diminish the sweetness and charity within us. St. Vincent DePaul For more information on saints that exemplify the virtue of mercy, we recommend the book, The Saints of Mercy published by Our Sunday Visitor 2015. Page 2
