L Arche Kapiti: Weekly Wave (29 April 13 May, 2016) The Building Begins IMPORTANT DATES We re so pleased to announce that after many years of dreaming, praying and waiting, L Arche Kapiti is about to move forward in building two new homes at 5 Tongariro Street! Above are images of the outside of the homes that the architect has designed with the L Arche community s input. Expect building to commence as early as next week. Now, the entire site (including the hall), is off limits, as it s now officially a building site, and the locks have been changed on the hall to secure a safe zone. We look forward to the days ahead, and are enjoying these exciting times! Thank you to those who hoped and prayed with us, and always believed we d come to this day. A big thank you too goes to Mike Redman and the Accommodation Committee who ve worked tirelessly over the past few years to find suitable accommodation, and to our Project Manager, Dave Sowry, who s already gone above and beyond to ensure we get the quality homes that the Core Members and Assistants deserve.

Johannes still remains a Friend of L Arche. Lift Up to God Pray for Stephen and Kim who were without their mums for the first time this past Mother s Day. Pray for Mike Noonan as he heads to Edinburgh to take-up the role of Community Leader there.
Visit to Anna Capewell (11 May, 2016) Many of us had a nice visit to Anna Capewell (second from left) this past Wednesday. She s been battling acute leukemia and still wants many prayers for a full recovery. Anna misses everyone at L Arche, and she received a lot of love, especially from the Core Members who prayed with her. Anna was a live-in Assistant back in 2004-2005, and she went with Laura to Trosly to meet Jean Vanier. Anna longs to get back to the Wellington Free Ambulance, where she s a paramedic. Requests Leighanne s requesting a volunteer piano teacher. Is this a skill that you have that you d like to pass along? If so, give Leighanne a call at Arahata House at 04 298 7446. We need stories! Val Roberts is currently compiling good stories and anecdotes with the Core Members, their families and friends to go in each Core Member s Life Book. However, we re really lacking some interesting, fun or quirky stories. If you have a great story or reflection about a Core Member, give Val a ring at: 04 298 7955 or email her at: val.roberts@xtra.co.nz. Each Core Member has to give permission for any story to be used in their book of course.
Karaoke Night (7 May, 2016 Our Lady of Kapiti New Church Fundraiser) Kim, Tamzin and all from L Arche hogged the stage at Karaoke Night at Coast Community Church last Saturday. It was a blast!
Happy Mother s Day!!! Above: Arahata House was invited to Levin for Mother s Day to visit with Leighanne and her mum, Irene. Below. Leighanne presents a beautiful, framed watercolour painting that she did for her mum. Julie went to visit her mum s grave, and Tam saw her mum as well. Our hearts go out to Kim and Stephen this year, as it was their first year without their mums. Opposite page: Leighanne displaying her various Special Olympics medals over the years her main event in the pool was the 50m backstroke!
