MIDNIGHT SUN YOGA CENTER, LLC January 11 March 11, 2019 200 HOUR YOGA TEACHER TRAINING Instruction from: Amanda Montavon & Jule Harle

Course Overview & Objectives This program will be more than just acquiring knowledge, it will be a full immersion into the art, science, and practice of Yoga. To truly understand Yoga, one must experience it. Whether your intention is to teach yoga or simply deepen your personal practice, this 9 week intensive will immerse you in the practice and theory of this ancient science; encouraging you to develop a connection with mind, body, and spirit while facilitating personal growth and transformation. Through in depth exploration and practice, you will leave the program with a strong foundation in yoga instruction. The program meets Yoga Alliance standards for 200 hour teacher training programs. It is currently in the review process for becoming a YA approved program and will be an approved program prior to the starting date. Once the program is completed students will meet the standards necessary to become a 200 Registered Yoga Teacher with the Yoga Alliance. Yoga Yoga today is commonly recognized by asanas (physical postures). It s through the practice of these postures that we learn to focus our awareness inwards (Pratyahara) and develop better concentration (Dharana), which prepares us for meditation (Dhyana). In the meantime, we develop muscular strength, flexibility, balance, and we stimulate the relaxation response which helps the endocrine and immune systems. Through asana practice, we begin creating a deeper awareness of the way our body moves and feels; this awareness eventually travels into other aspects of our lives. With time and practice, Yoga helps us become more aware of our thoughts and emotions, more aware of who we are and how we express ourselves. As our focus and concentration improves, we can be more present in our lives, find peace and clarity in the mind, and let go of mental distractions like stress, worry, anxiety, frustration, and fear. Program Emphasis TEACHING METHODS: Principles of Anatomy & Physiology Understanding Physical & Mental Benefits of Poses Teaching Safe Alignment Modifications, Contraindications & Use of Props Art & Science of Sequencing a Class Pranayama: The Art of Breathing Teaching Ethics & Techniques Discovering Your Voice & Style: Teaching from the Heart Confidence Building with Practice Teaching PHILOSOPHY & LIFESTYLE: Yoga Philosophy & History: Patanjali s 8 Limbed Path Introduction to Traditional Yoga Texts Introduction to Subtle Practices: Mudras, Bandhas, Kriyas & Meditation Living Your Yoga: Taking It Off the Mat 1

This 200 hour training is Yoga Alliance Recognized; upon completion of the program, students will receive a 200 hour certification and be able to register with the Yoga Alliance as a 200 hour teacher. Your Instructors: Amanda Montavon and Jule Harle met in Anchorage as college students in 2007. Both new to Alaska, they found a connection through their love for nature and wilderness exploration. They grew close through remote backpacking, rafting, pack rafting, and skiing routes throughout Alaska. Both avid yogis, they would frequently take their practice outdoors; discovering Yoga's magic both on and off the mat. Together they have over 20 years of teaching Yoga and both have studied and practice Ayurveda, yoga s sister science. They love sharing with others how Yoga, Ayurveda and a connection to nature helps one tap into "their spiritual heart" or "true self." They are looking forward to sharing these with you and building a positive learning community in this 200 hour Hatha Yoga Teacher Training! Amanda Montavon, M.A., E 500 RYT, CAP: Amanda has over 15 years of experience coaching and teaching people of all ages, fitness levels and walks of life. She s worked in the fitness industry as a swim coach, personal trainer and group fitness instructor. She started teaching Yoga 13 years ago as a certified Hatha instructor through FiTour. At first, she was purely interested in the physical benefits of Yoga. However, upon experiencing the subtler benefits of her practice she became intrigued by Yoga philosophy, mind body medicine and concepts of holistic health. Since then she s completed a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) in Multi Style Yoga, a 500 hour YTT in Traditional Tantra Yoga from the Shri Kali Ashram in Goa, India and several continuing education workshops. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Outdoor Studies from Alaska Pacific University, and upon graduating she worked in mental health as a wilderness guide/behavioral health technician, activity therapist and as a Yoga therapist. Her continued pursuit of Yoga eventually led her to the study of Ayurveda, and she completed the training required to meet the standards of the National Ayurveda Medical Association for Ayurveda Practitioners. She taught her first 200 hour YTT program as a capstone project for her Master of Arts, and her thesis was on developing holistic teaching methods; holistically supporting others along their own unique path of personal growth. She has taught four YTTs accredited by the Yoga Alliance. She works full time as the Director of Programs for Onward and Upward a non profit School for Adventure Based Learning and Self Discovery in Palmer, Alaska. The study, and more importantly, the practice of Yoga and Ayurveda continue to be an integral part of her personal development. Check out her website at www.alaskaayurveda.com and her Instagram: @naturebasedyoga 2

Jule Harle, M.A, 500 RYT, AHC: Jule started regularly practicing Yoga in 2005 to restore and strengthen her body; she enjoyed the connection of movement with breath along with the increased energy it gave her for Alaskan adventures. She was drawn to many styles: Hatha, Vinyasa, Iyengar, Bikram, Kundalini, and Ashtanga, and drew insight from all of them. In 2010, she traveled to India with aspirations of becoming a Yoga teacher and completed a 200 hour YTT in Rishikiish. Living in an Ashram for 2 months immersed in a Yogic lifestyle helped her better understand Yoga anatomy, philosophy and subtle practices. India called again in 2013; she returned to the ashram lifestyle to complete a 300 hour advanced YTT with her same teachers. Again, she was impressed at how great her body felt, how still her mind was, and how much peace she found with herself from a regular asana, mantra, pranayama and meditation routine. Jule views herself as a lifelong learnershe sees everyone and everything as a teacher. She has a B.A. in Counseling Psychology from Alaska Pacific University and a Master of Arts (M.A.) from UAA in Counseling. She s also an Ayurvedic Health Counselor through the National Association of Ayurvedic Medicine. Studying Yoga s sister science has helped her understand how both facilitate deep physical and mental healing while supporting growth in her yoga practice. Jule also has a mental health counseling practice, specializing in integrating yoga, Ayurveda, DBT & CBT techniques with holistic lifestyle changes. She owns Alaska Yoga Adventures and guides wilderness yoga trips and retreats throughout the state. Check out her websites: www.alaskayogaadventures.com & www.ayurvedamindbody.org or on Instagram: @Alaska_yoga_adventures Ailis Vann LMT, 200 RYT Program Director Ailis has been practicing yoga for more than 15 years. The more she learns, the more intrigued and driven she becomes to learn more. After about 6 years of regular practice, she decided to take her practice a little deeper and become a yoga teacher. She took a 200 hour YTT in Palmer, Alaska and has been teaching for 7 years. She opened Midnight Sun Yoga Center with Erin Kessler in 2012 and has been the sole owner since 2014. Opening the studio has been one of the greatest decisions of her life and the support that MSYC receives from the community blows her away on a regular basis. Ailis is very involved in the community. She is on the board of directors for the Greater Palmer Chamber of Commerce and spends a lot of time volunteering for community events such as Colony Days and Colony Christmas. She teaches a 1 credit yoga class at Mat Su College every semester and teaches a lot of free classes throughout the year. Yoga has helped Ailis become a better person by teaching her self discipline, patience, understanding, loving kindness, and tolerance. A regular yoga practice also helps her with her off the mat activities: biking, hiking, gardening, keeping up with a toddler, and swimming. Yoga has also taught her to love herself no matter what obstacles she encounters. She encourages anyone and everyone to try yoga, and to try it at Midnight Sun because of the inclusive feel the students 3

offer to new students, and the vast knowledge of the instructors. She teaches yoga because she loves helping people help themselves. Her goal is to help students feel better, more relaxed and more at peace when they leave class. She believes that if everyone in the world practiced yoga, the world would be much more at peace.
