Scripture Readings (ESV): Genesis 3:17-19: 17 And to Adam He said, Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, You shall not eat of it, cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life; 18 thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field. 19 By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return. Luke 14:1-6: 1 One Sabbath, when He went to dine at the house of a ruler of the Pharisees, they were watching Him carefully. 2 And behold, there was a man before Him who had dropsy. 3 And Jesus responded to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath, or not? 4 But they remained silent. Then He took him and healed him and sent him away. 5 And He said to them, Which of you, having a son or an ox that has fallen into a well on a Sabbath day, will not immediately pull him out? 6 And they could not reply to these things. Thank you for your service: Ushers: 9/2: (8:30) Kim Wirbel & Jane Donnelly (10:30) Heather Erwin, Jim Bidwell, Nancy Rickenbacher
Sermon Notes 02 September 2018 Scripture: Genesis 3:17-19; Luke 14:1-6 Sermon: Off to Work We Go 1. When you heard that today s topic was vocation and work, what did you think and feel? Did you ever stop to think that Jesus had a real job before entering ministry? 2. From the passage in Luke, how does Jesus frame work and ministry? What rules do we have that prevent us from doing godly things and accomplishing the Lord s work? 3. According to Genesis (not just today s passage; see 2:15), is work a curse? What purpose does work serve in the life of a Christian? 4. Do you see your work as a vocation (calling)? What is your vocation in these days? Do you find joy in that calling? How? Has today s sermon helped you to recommit to finding joy in your work for the Lord? How?

A Prayer of Repentance and Salvation Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your Son, Jesus Christ, and for His death on the Cross for my sins and for the sins of the whole world. I repent of my sins and turn to You for salvation. I surrender my life to You; come live in me. Change me, cleanse me, forgive me, and make me the person that You want me to be in this world.
