District Meeting Minutes March 23 rd, 2017 Spring Quarterly Meeting, Brew Detroit President: Debbie Smith called the meeting to order at 10:04 am Paul Popa indicated the minutes from the prior meeting were available and motioned to approve the minutes. Minutes from the prior meeting were accepted and approved. Debbie asked for Ken Belau to deliver the Treasurer s Report. Treasurer s Report: Ken Belau Looks like we are doing great. On March 22 2017 we had $32,870.91 Chase $128.72 Paypal $110 cash $33,109.63 Total Debbie asked for motion to approve Treasurer s Report. Motion to approve was accepted. Vice President: John Stewart Summer Social is coming, July 8 th at Fitzgerald s Park in Grand Ledge, Michigan. John asked for names of people who will be supporting the event with items: Dan Kiplinger Confirmed Water and Chips/preztels Dan Buonodono Confirmed Recycling/trash Containers Todd Parker Confirmed Ice Brett Kuhnhenn Confirmed Children's Entertainment Founder s will provide cups John will line up Bryan from Perrin Brewing to run Disc Golf since Matt Wiles is no longer in Michigan. John Stewart is planning on bringing two four head jockey boxes and draft dispense tools. Chas will provide PA for the event Shirts need to be on the list of items to cover. Louwrens Wildschut will be the beer wrangler. Awarding of MBAA Scholarships will happen, but must be present to win. Debbie Smith reminded everyone of the need to attend meetings for additional entries in the drawing. John will be calling up past Sponsors to drive Fund Raising.

Board of Governors: John Mallett John said nothing has happened lately, but a telephone meeting of the Board of Governor was coming soon and that he would post the information to the Community site. John mentioned that the Technical Quarterly was being mailed out and everybody loves it! The hard copy versions are fantastic! Scholarship Committee: Brad Stevenson Deadline for national scholarship applications for the MBAA Engineering Course is June 1 st. Deadline for national scholarship applications for the Brewing and Malting Course is August 1 st. Technical Committee: Louwrens Wildschut We have had a request for a topic on sensors, can we find someone that can present on this topic? Louwrens also put a call for ideas for technical talks. Please submit your ideas to Louwrens or any other Technical Committee Member. Open Items: Fred Schumacher Passing. John Mallett spoke to Fred s passing Sunday 19 March. Fred had a productive morning, exercise and breakfast then passed peacefully. He represented the company that Bell s buys 5L kegs. With the sad news of his passing, John asked everyone to raise a glass in his honor. Wake is scheduled for Monday 27 March, followed by a service on Tuesday 28 th March in Frankenmuth, Michigan. A Moment of Silence was observed followed by raising a glass in his honor Rex Halfpenny spoke of Fred s legacy in Michigan Brewing: Fred was the original member of the District Michigan. Born to be a brewer to family of brewers, many of us happened upon the job, Fred was born into it. Wanted to get a job in the US, but didn t know English. Got a job in Australia, learned English under German Brewmaster in Australia. Then, he got a greyhound bus ticket for $100 to travel round the US. He traveled all over US, ended up in Frankenmuth (dryer bro brewing) purchased the Brewery. Frankenmuth Brewery initiated the Oktoberfest in Frankenmuth. Again, a Moment of Silence and we should raise some glasses to him. Debbie motion to adjourn General Meeting Motion Accepted, meeting adjourned at 10:20 am
