The Banner The Lord is My Banner. Exodus 17:15 December 6, 2018 First Baptist Church, Cuero P.O. Box 803 408 N. Gonzales Cuero, TX 77954 361-275-3401 (office) www.fbccuero.org Note From The Pastor Dr. Glenn E. Robertson, Sr. Pastor This week our Advent theme is Peace. Our message will be: Christ Brings Peace. We will look at Zechariah 9:9-17 which speaks about the one who comes to bring peace to the nations. The angels proclaimed peace to the world on the morning of Christ s birth. Yet, as the Christmas carol says, there has been little peace since then. Nations roar against nations. Political hatred is at an all time high. Those who hate the name of Jesus are fanned into flame by the evil one in our day. Yet the fulfillment of this passage still speaks of a coming peace. It will be a peace unlike any this world has ever known. The Prince of Peace will make peace, but His peace will require a purging of the enemy s presence. Jesus will silence the devil s voice who stirs our heart with fear. When Jesus peace comes, it will come suddenly, like the flashing of lightening in the sky. Until He comes, peace can still live in the human heart. Peace comes to us when we draw near to God. Peace is the silence of fear, Hushed by the breath of God Who has drawn near. Christ brings peace to those who abide in Him. See you Sunday, Pastor Glenn Larry s Notes Pastor of Music & Worship CHILDREN, CANDLES, CHRISTMAS Caution: dates on the calendar are closer than you realize. We have some special events planned for the Advent/Christmas season, and they will be here very soon. Our 2 children s choirs will present their Christmas program on Sunday, December 16, at 6:00PM. This presentation is always a blessing. Please come to the program not just to support and encourage the students, but also to receive a blessing as you listen to them sing about the birth of our Savior. Our Christmas Eve service will be on...christmas Eve! Join us for a special evening at 6:00PM on Monday, December 24. We will use choirs, handbells, Christmas carols and candles to worship the Lord. On Sundays December 23 and 30, our schedule will not change. If you are in town, join us for Worship at 8:30AM and/or 11:00AM and Bible study 9:45 AM.

Every year I think December can t get any busier, but somehow, we manage to cram more events into the hectic season. Use these worship opportunities to stay connected to Jesus. The world in its hurry overlooked Jesus at His birth. We can pause for a few moments this month and remember Him. Pastor of Youth, Ben Faus Cleaning Out The framed art in the picture shown was retrieved by the youth as part of a game we played one time. If you would like to purchase it for your home, please be in touch. The artist is JB Berkow, and there is a certificate of authenticity that comes with it. If you would like to make a donation to the youth for the painting, please call the office. (Picture taken with door in background for size comparison) Advent As Jude gets older, my sense of time changes more and more. It seems to be going faster. He s not as easy to carry as he once was, and he s much more independent already. Recently I ve found myself mentally fast-forwarding. It often feels like tomorrow he ll be grown and gone. It s easy to get disappointed in thinking about my little buddy being out of the house already. I remind myself that these moments are still in the future, and there s no need to get so hasty. I ought to enjoy every moment with him. It might be easy to do the same with Advent and Christmas. Before you know it, Christmas will have come and gone, and then we ll be back to the normal routine. How can you resist this sentiment? What can you do to slow down, take in the waiting time of Advent, and truly appreciate the 12 days of Christmastide that follow? Maybe spend a few moments each day reflecting on Mary and Joseph s journey. Think about what it might have been like to wait 9 whole months for the birth of the Savior. Avoid the temptation to fast-forward, and don t miss the opportunity to really soak in the season. Grace and Peace, Ben Faus 214-675-2731 (cell)
