2 Order of Service for the Twentieth Sunday after Pentecost Welcome: Marc E. Nauman, Pastor Bible Verse for October He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior. Titus 3:5-6 Invocation Pastor: In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit Congregation: Amen Introit Pastor: May the Lord bless you from Zion all the days of your life. Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in his ways. You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours. Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your sons will be like olive shoots around your table. Thus is the man blessed who fears the Lord. May you see the prosperity of Jerusalem, and may you live to see your children s children. Congregation: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now and will be forever. Amen. Pastor: May the Lord bless you from Zion all the days of your life. Opening Hymn First Service: #272 All Hail The Power of Jesus Name Second Service: Your Love Is Amazing (displayed)

The Confession and Forgiveness Pastor: Pour out your heart to Him, Congregation: for God is our refuge. Pastor: O my people, Congregation: trust in Him at all times. Pastor: Let all that I am Congregation: wait quietly before God. (Silence for reflection and self-examination) Congregation: Most merciful God, we have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed. We have not sought Your refuge as we should. We have not trusted in You at all times. We do not always wait for Your guidance. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us. Amen. Absolution of Sins Song of Response First Service: #368 My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less Second Service: Create In Me (displayed) The Collect of the Day Pastor: O God, whose almighty power is made known chiefly in showing mercy and pity, grant us the fullness of your grace that we may be partakers of your heavenly treasures; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, One God now and forever. Congregation: Amen. The Reading of God s Word: Habakkuk 1:1-4, 2:1-4 The oracle that Habakkuk the prophet saw. O Lord, how long shall I cry for help, and you will not hear? Or cry to you Violence! and you will not save? Why do you make me see iniquity, and why do you idly look at wrong? Destruction 3

and violence are before me; strife and contention arise. So the law is paralyzed, and justice never goes forth. For the wicked surround the righteous; so justice goes forth perverted... I will take my stand at my watch-post and station myself on the tower, and look out to see what He will say to me, and what I will answer concerning my complaint. And the Lord answered me: "Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it. For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay. "Behold, his soul is puffed up; it is not upright within him, but the righteous shall live by his faith. Reader: This is the Word of the Lord. Congregation: Thanks be to God. 4 The Gospel: Luke 17:1-10 Jesus said to his disciples, "Temptations to sin are sure to come, but woe to the one through whom they come! It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were cast into the sea than that he should cause one of these little ones to sin. Pay attention to yourselves! If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him, and if he sins against you seven times in the day, and turns to you seven times, saying, 'I repent,' you must forgive him." The apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith!" And the Lord said, "If you had faith like a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it would obey you. Will any one of you who has a servant plowing or keeping sheep say to him when he has come in from the field, 'Come at once and recline at table'? Will he not rather say to him, 'Prepare supper for me, and dress properly, and serve me while I eat and drink, and afterward you will eat and drink'? Does he thank the servant because he did what was commanded? So you also, when

you have done all that you were commanded, say, 'We are unworthy servants; we have only done what was our duty.'" Elder: This is the Gospel of the Lord. Congregation: Praise to You, O Christ. The Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen Children s Message: Forgive (second service) Dismissal for Children s Church (second service) Children s Church is for children through fifth grade. Children are dismissed to meet in the Little Lambs room for their lesson. Hymn Of The Day First Service: #378 My Faith Looks Trustingly The Message: Living by Faith in Troubled Times Song Of The Day Second Service: On The Third Day (displayed) Prayers of the Church Pastor: Lord, in Your Mercy Congregation: Hear our prayer! 5

The Lord s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. Offering Please fill out the red Friendship Folder for your row then pass it to the person next to you. The Noisy Offering supports Trinity s Youth Group The Lord s Supper Pastor: The Lord be with you. Congregation: And also with you. Pastor: Lift up your hearts. Congregation: We lift them to the Lord. Pastor: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. Congregation: It is right to give Him thanks and praise. Admonition Sharing of the Lord s Peace Sanctus Words of Institution Pastor: Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: Take, eat; this is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me. In the same way, after supper, he took the cup and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying: Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new covenant in my 6

blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. Pax Domini The Peace of the Lord The Distribution of the Bread and Wine Post Communion Collect Congregation: We give thanks to you, Almighty God, that you have refreshed us through this Sacrament. We ask that, in Your mercy, you would strengthen us in faith towards You, and in love towards one another through Jesus Christ Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, One God, now and forever. Amen. The Benediction Pastor: The LORD bless you and keep you. The LORD make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you. The LORD look upon you with favor and give you peace. Congregation: Amen. Closing Hymn First Service: #375 You I Will Love, My Strength Second Service: Lord Most High (displayed) Pastor s Announcements Dismissal Pastor: Go in peace and serve the Lord.
