Worship and Music Committee Minutes Wed. Jan. 15, 2014 Attendance: Janet Filchner, Karen Koplin, Pastor Paulette, Pastor Jami, Bruce Schnabel, Vicki Steiner, David Ziegler Absent: Linda Mery and Ann Sassaman Visitor: Kathy Ziegler Pastor Paulette opened the meeting with prayer. Dolores Reenock is taking a leave of absence from the committee. In response to congregation requests, the committee will look into progressively decorating the church for Christmas during the Advent season. Pastor Jami will speak to several members to see if they would be willing to coordinate Christmas decorating. The committee agreed that Christmas songs will be reserved for the Christmas season and not sung until the Christmas Eve services. In response to requests from the congregation at the annual congregational meeting, the committee agreed that veterans of U.S. armed forces should be acknowledged during the announcements of the church services on the Sundays before Memorial Day and closest to Veterans Day. A patriotic hymn will also be sung during the announcements at these services. Two weeks before each of these services, an announcement will be placed in the bulletin requesting submission of names of persons currently serving in the military. The submitted names will then be included in the prayer of the church during the services on the two designated Sundays. Table communion will be discussed at the next committee meeting. After lower attendance for the daytime Christmas service this past December, the need for this service was discussed. After discussion the committee decided to hold the service again this year. Setting 6 will be used during services with communion in the season of Epiphany. Boy Scout Sunday will be February 2 during the 10:30 service. Scouts will assist with ushering and other duties during the worship service. Pastor Jami presented a list of possible themes for the evening mid week Lenten services. After review and suggestion by the committee, she will prepare a series on the Seven Deadly Sins or Martin Luther s key aspects of faith. Pastor Jami will also plan a service of Stations of the Cross during Holy Week in April. The service will be in addition to the Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services. Pastor Jami suggested a narrative communion liturgy service for March 30, which is the fifth Sunday of the month with communion at both services. The narratives will explain parts of the service and replace the sermon.

Karen Koplin shared that several members complained about worshippers bringing coffee into the sanctuary during Sunday worship services. A notice will be placed in the bulletin asking worshippers to refrain from bringing beverages into the sanctuary during worship services.
