The Friendly Visitor February 2012 Foothills Community Church 11102 N. Forker Road Spokane, WA 99217-9455 (Affiliated with Village Missions) www.foothillscc.net Office (509) 926-4971 Monday-Friday 8am-2pm God s Amazing Love For Us! As I flip the calendar to February, I can almost smell the chocolate. Can t you? It s the season for hearts, flowers and chocolates. If you have a sweetheart, this is the day to show them how much they mean to you. I have always loved February and Valentine s Day. Even as a young child, I remember preparing my cards for my classmates each year. As a parent, I have enjoyed watching my kids do the same thing for their friends. My daughters have always been more particular about the cards they send than I ever was. They want to be sure that the card they choose matches the recipient. Will the card make that person feel loved and special? Will their friend really like the design? Which chocolate candy should they tape to the outside? They truly want to be sure that they demonstrate their love in a specific manner. Brian Dedera Senior Pastor brian@foothillscc.net 1 God is much the same way to us. He demonstrates His love for us in very specific ways ways that meet each of us in a manner that we need it most. We see God s love in his works of Providence. His special providence is His loving care that He has for His people. In love, God supplies us with all we need. Whether we are experiencing a season of blessing or a season of suffering, God s care and love is not diminished. God s love is seen in the giving of His only Son. but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8. This love is truly amazing because it is for those who are rebels. I do not understand how God can love me, a rebellious sinner, like he does. It is such amazing love that Jesus would be sent to take the place of sinners on the cross. We deserve the punishment because of our Brett Preston Associate Pastor

sin against God. But God s love has taken care of our punishment. And think of the love of Jesus for us. Jonathan Edwards says it so well: This love of Christ is also exceedingly sweet and satisfying from the greatness of it; it is a dying love; such love as never was before seen, and such as no other can parallel. There have been instances of very great love between one earthly friend and another; there was a surpassing love between David and Jonathan. But there never was any such love as Christ has towards believers. The satisfying nature of this love arises also from the sweet fruits of it. Those precious benefits that Christ bestows upon his people, and those precious promises which he has given them, are the fruit of this love; joy and hope are the constant streams that flow from this fountain, from the love of Christ. I am so thankful that God does not wait for one special day a year to demonstrate His love to us. He loves us each and every moment without fail. I pray that as we enter this season we would be reminded and encouraged by the Father s love for us. Pastor Brian Women s Ministries Fellowship Morning Saturday, February 4th 9-11:00 am Ladies, join us in the Fellowship Hall for a fun time of getting to know each other and just spending time together.
