We come together to worship God, serve our neighbors, and make disciples. Pastor s Pen As you know, we took a Mass Schedule Vote several months ago, and by a great majority, the vote determined: The Saturday Evening Mass will move to 4pm, and Saturday Confessions will move to 3-3:45pm. This change will begin on September 8th, the Saturday after Labor Day. Christmas Midnight Mass will be moved earlier to 10pm. With this vote, many suggested we also look at the Sunday 7am Mass; some felt it should be moved later. This Sunday I asked the 7am Mass attendees their thoughts: ONLY 3 people thought the Mass should be moved later, and since they faithfully attend every 7am Sunday Mass, the Sunday early Mass will remain at 7am. I appreciate everyone weighing-in on these decisions, and accepting the decisions of the majority; it s how a (parish) family works. Another thing the Parish Family has been asking for is a prayer chain. Due to HIPPA Laws, these are becoming more difficult to do, in particular, publishing names in a public bulletin. To respond to your requests, and the abide by the law, we will begin an Email Prayer Chain. Denise Trull has graciously offered to host the Prayer Chain. She writes: Dear St. John the Baptist Families: Do you need prayers for yourself, relatives, friends, someone who is sick or going through a rough time? We have set up a prayer chain in order to pray for all your intentions and also to ask you to pray for the intentions of your fellow parishioners. Just send us an email to: prayerchain@sjbstl.org with your requests, and we will send them out each week to all those who join the prayer chain. The list will grow each week as more people join in. This will bring many people together praying for each others needs in our Parish. For your privacy and the privacy of others, we will not show your email addresses when we send out the chain. We also ask that you only request prayers for yourself and your family members by name. If you wish to pray for other people, you can simply say "for a special intention" or "for a friend with cancer". This will both get them the prayers they need and also the privacy they might wish to have. Knowing the needs in our parish will help us grow together in the greatest bond we have. Prayer!! One last thing: Just because we no longer announce: Gift Certificates are available at the rear of church at the end of every Pulpit Announcement, they are still being sold after every Mass. We have Shop & Save and Dierbergs gift cards, in $25 and $100 denominations. (If you would like other gift cards, ask the person selling the gift cards for an order form.) This is how it works: you pay $25 or $100 for a card, and you will get $25 or $100 worth of groceries. The parish gets a kick-back of 4% ($1 or $4) per every card sold which goes toward the parish s fundraising budget. It s another way to help the parish; we thank you in advance for your gift card purchases. Fr. Carl

The next scheduled meeting for the Men s Club will be on Tuesday, June 19th at 7:30 PM in the cafeteria. All men of the parish are welcome to attend. Please join us Saturday, June 23, 2018 when we will celebrate The Nativity of St. John the Baptist with Pizza and Ice Cream from 5-7 PM in the air conditioned cafeteria. Safe Environment Program: The purpose of the Safe Environment Program is to create and maintain a safe environment for all God s children. All employees, volunteers, religious, priest and deacons who work with or near children must be compliant with the Safe Environment Program of the Archdiocese of Saint Louis set forth by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Compliance with the Safe Environment Program includes attending a Protecting God s Children Workshop, completing a Missouri Background Check, and reading and signing a Code of Ethical Conduct for Clergy, Employees, and Volunteers working with minor s document. Each location must have copies of individual background checks & a confirmation of the Code of Ethical Conduct form on file for all active volunteers and employees. Additional background checks will be required if you have lived outside the State of Missouri in the past five years or currently reside in Illinois or another state. Missouri Background Checks are updated every even numbered year. Please let the parish office know if you would like to be removed from the list of active volunteers. You must also contact the Missouri Family Care Safety Registry at 1-866-422-6872 with address changes.
