Dear Friends, From the Interim Rector St. Mary s offers sympathy St. Mary s offers sympathy to the family of Althea Holton upon the death of her mother, Mrs. Genetear Oliver. Please keep Mrs. Oliver s family, especially Althea, Randy, and Brandon in your prayers. An Evening to Celebrate! Alleluia! Christ is Risen! The Lord is risen indeed! Alleluia! May is shaping up to be full of the joy of the Risen Lord! The Great Fifty Days continues throughout the entire month! So, I m wondering where you will encounter the Lord Jesus here at St. Mary s? Will it be in those sacred moments as we worship together? Will it be in shared laughter with a brother or a sister? Perhaps in the sweet faces of our children you will see the face of the Risen Lord? I wonder where you will encounter our resurrected Savior? I know that the Living Lord is here, yearning to connect with us and empower us with the Holy Spirit. One of the times that I experience his presence most profoundly is at the passing of the peace. At that time, there is a chorus of joy that arises as we clasp one another s hands and offer Christ s own words of peace. What a powerful reminder of Christ s power and presence! I wonder where you will encounter the Risen Lord, St. Mary s? May the love of the cross, the power of the resurrection and the presence of the Living Lord, be with you during these Great Fifty Days and always, Judith + 3 On Friday, April 7, a banquet was held to recognize the volunteers whose service make possible the mission and ministry of Mary s Kitchen. LaTonya Smith, the Executive Director of Mary s Kitchen and St. Mary s Parish Administrator, coordinated the event. Everyone who had served in some way throughout the year was invited to attend. Mr. P.C. Barwick, Jr., Mr. Mark Hollar and Mrs. Mary Hosea all received MVP (Most Valuable People!) awards for their long years of devoted service to Mary s Kitchen. Mr. Del Nix received a trophy for accruing the Most Volunteer Hours over his twenty years of service. Last year, Mary s Kitchen served approximately 43, 350 meals to anyone who came seeking a warm meal, no questions asked. This has been the mission of Mary s Kitchen since its beginning over 30 years ago. St. Mary s Church has a team that coordinates the meals at Mary s Kitchen one Saturday every three months. If you d like to be a part of this ministry, please call the parish office or email LaTonya at lsmith@stmaryskinston.com.

4 Worship St. Mary s observes the Feast Days of the Church with a celebration of Holy Eucharist and Healing Prayers on Wednesday of the week in which a feast day falls on the calendar. All liturgies are held in the All Saints Chapel at 12:00 noon. This month, we will celebrate: the Feast of Ss. Philip & James (May 3), Ascension Day (May 24), the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (May 31). Prayers of healing of all kinds and for any person are most welcome. Please plan to join your parish family for this service. Memorial Day Sunday, May 28, 2017 On this Memorial Day weekend we will remember, by special prayers and with the laying of a wreath in St. Francis Garden, friends of St. Mary s that have died while serving in the Armed Forces of our country. If you have a loved one who died while serving in the military, please send that name to ljohnson@stmaryskinston.com, Linda Johnson our Parish Secretary. BLESS YOU!!! To all the many people whose ministries made our Lent, Holy Week, and Easter liturgies possible. A special thank you to the altar guild, choirs, musicians, acolytes, ushers, lectors, Eucharistic ministers, and children s ministers for sharing their gifts, love, and talents at St. Mary s!

Christian Formation 5 Celebrating our Christian Formation Leaders On Sun d ay, M ay 21, we w ill acknowledge and thank the many church leaders whose teaching ministries have proven to be so helpful this program year. If you were a part of leading any Sunday morning or midweek Christian education offering this year, please plan to be at the 10am liturgy on May 21. On Palm Sunday, April 9th, members of the church gathered in Soles4Souls Moseley Hall following the 10am liturgy and boxed hundreds of pairs of shoes which were shipped to Nashville, TN where they will be distributed as needed throughout the world. St. Mary s has shipped over 7,500 pair of shoes to Soles4Souls the past 7 years! We thank all those who contributed and packed shoes. A special thank you to Rachel Singer for her leadership in this ministry. Additionally, this year the boxes of packaged shoes were part of a prayer station in Moseley Hall on Tuesday in Holy Week that the EYC c o o r d i n a t e d. W o r s h i p e r s w e r e invited to pray for the Soles4Souls organization as well as for the people who played a part in the St. Mary s outreach and all people who would be impacted by this initiative. May God bless all involved! VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL All Hands on Deck! I heard great stories of New Beginnings at Trinity Center and was impressed with their spiritual gifts in planning and leading the evening of worship on Tuesday of Holy Week that included Compline, officiated by Anna Haddad, with a powerful homily by Kirby Ballard and a labyrinth in Moseley Hall. The season culminated when Easter was joyfully rung in by a score of worshipers at the EYC Easter Vigil. Chloe Albritton baked the beautiful communion bread. God is most certainly alive and moving in the young people of St. Mary s! Happy Easter!!! Fr. Tom+

Other news 7 A great big thank you to the members of St. Mary's who graciously participated in our 2017 Lenten Outreach project. Due to the generosity of this parish, a check in the amount of $1,500 was presented to St. Mary s Nursery School teacher Kim Winter along with a card signed by many members of St. Mary's assuring her of our continued prayers for her healing and in thanksgiving for her ministry to the children of SMNS. Please note the change in date for this Spring s Mass on the Grass. It is now rescheduled for Pentecost Sunday, June 4. Special music is being planned for this delightful liturgy. A pot-luck will follow. Please invite a friend to join you on this great celebration! 4th Sunday Breakfasts! Some men of the church are bringing back a tradition from years ago and will be serving a home-cooked breakfast to ALL in Moseley Hall in between the 8am and 10am liturgies. Food will be served between 9 and 9:40am on Sunday, May 28. There is no charge for the meal, but donations will be accepted to help support future fellowship activities of the parish family.
