Welcome Coffee Mornings Wednesday 12th & Thursday 13th September 8.30-10am: We are particularly welcoming new parents of pre-school and reception class children and other new parents for coffee & pastries in the Leslie Room after drop-off on Wednesday and Thursday morning. Everyone welcome & there are plenty of toys too! Thursday 13 th Sept 10.30 am: The Informal coffee morning will take place in the church centre. These coffee mornings follow on from a simple Eucharist (in St Peter s Chapel in the church centre) at 10.00am to which all are welcome and are held on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays in the month. (preview audience member); A fresh re-positioning of the gospel stories in up-to-date contexts (preview audience member). Four young evangelists two women, two men piece together the startling story of what happened when Jesus turned up on their street. Packed with dynamic storytelling and spectacular spoken word this is a modern day telling of the gospel stories. It s a wild ride through issues of life, death and miraculous street food. Tickets 10 (concessions 8) on sale in church after the 9.30am & 6.30pm Sunday services, via the church office and the website and from Waterstones. Accommodation is also requested for the 5 Riding Lights Actors for the night of 29 th Sept 2018: They will need to stay in individual rooms here in Horsham. Monday 24 th Sept 8pm: St Mary's Tapestry Group:...are holding a working party at the Vicarage. It is a lovely social gathering when we make up the new kneelers and repair older ones. No experience needed. A seven week group for parents & carers of teenagers will be starting on Thursday September 27 th at 8pm. We will share experiences and explore the skills which help us connect with teenagers, improve communication, manage conflict, and build strong families. 9 cost, which includes a handbook to keep. Horsham Churches Night Shelter will run from the 1st December 2018 to 15th March 2019. Volunteer recruitment starts now! Application forms are available now at the back of church or from the church office. Deadline for applications is the 22nd October. Night Shelter Sunday is 7th October. Preparation sessions are on the 10th & 14th November. Harvest Celebration Sunday 7 th Oct at all services please bring donations of nonperishable foods as we will be collecting for the Salvation Army Hope Inn this year. Thankyou for Guy Bridgewater: Guy and Jebs are leaving us on Sunday 28 th October 2018, as Guy moves to his new Parish in Bath Abbey in November. A special farewell service will be held for them 28 th Oct, during which a gift will be presented as a token of our warm thanks for their ministry among us these last 11 years. If you would like to contribute to this leaving gift please make your contribution through the church office, clearly marked Guy s Leaving Gift. There is a card (booklet) for everyone to sign a farewell message - available at the back of church. Thankyou. Monday 26 th Nov: Travelling to Guy s licensing at Bath Abbey - we have booked a coach and plan to leave at 1.30pm from Hop Oast for Bath Abbey; stopping at service station/cafés in Bath or similar for food; returning after the service (leaving Bath approx 10pm). Those that want a lift to Hop Oast please let Frank King know and he will arrange that with those who are going to use the free parking at Hop Oast for the trip. If we can fill a 53 seater coach it will cost 12.50 each for the transport - the cost of the coach will be shared between those on board so this is a guide cost at this stage and will be dependent on numbers. FOR YOUR INFORMATION VOLUNTEERS NEEDED OUR YOUTH CLUB, TGIF, urgently needs some first aid trained volunteers on a rota basis as well as additional volunteers to join the team to help run fun activities (baking/sports/craft etc) for young people aged 10-18 on a Friday evening. Great opportunity to share your life stories/hobbies with young people as well as teaching life skills. All volunteers are part of rota to fit their time commitments. Full training will be given. All applicants must complete compulsory DBS check & attend safeguarding training. Car Parking: Please be aware that there are parking restrictions in Normandy. We are aware that some people have received parking tickets when parked there during Sunday morning services. Remember that the Church car park, off the Causeway, is available for those attending our services on Sundays. St. Mary s Home and Small Groups: St. Mary s is a big congregation, and our Home Groups and other Small Groups are at the very heart of our life together. We hope that everyone who wants to get involved at St. Mary s will join a Home Group, since this is the best environment for growing friendships, studying our faith, and praying & caring for each other. in effect to be the Church in miniature. Our home groups, each made up of between 6 and 10 people, mostly meet on a weekly basis in term-time, at a wide variety of times & places around the town. Two even have a creche and take place from 9.30 am 10.30 am, with refreshments from 8.30 am. To join a St. Mary s Home Group please ask one of the clergy, or contact the Church Office. Calling all Waitrose shoppers: St Mary's School HSA has been chosen as one of the three good causes by Horsham Waitrose this month (September) and needs your help. The HSA would hugely appreciate it if St Mary's shoppers could put their green tokens in the appropriate slot this month. The more tokens means this great cause gets more cash. Please tell your friends, family and neighbours as the HSA needs all the help it can get. A message from Sheila Pilkington: Cakes and Preserves - after over 25 years and due to a change in my circumstances, I have decided to discontinue making cakes and preserves on a regular basis and feel as we have a change when Guy and Jebs move on to Bath Abbey that would be a natural break. However, if anyone would like to take over then please let Alison know in the church office, should you decide to take over I will give you my full help and advice if required. Sheila.
Request for help from Holy Trinity: If anyone is available from 10am on Saturday, 15th September to help run a stall for Holy Trinity Summer Fayre we would be very grateful. A lot of our regular helpers are away in the middle of September and so we are under staffed. We need help setting up from 10am and then help running stalls from noon until 4pm. Sat 22nd Sept 2pm-5pm Celtic Prayer Workshop at St Leonard s Church Led by Margaret Symonds (Reader, St Leonard s Church). We will spend the afternoon looking at examples which illustrate these characteristics, discussing how we can bring them to our own prayer lives and doing some practical exercises with prayers. The workshop will end with tea and cake! There is no charge for the workshop but donations towards refreshments will be greatly appreciated!
