There isn't even water in the jars. You can imagine a celebration where everything runs out; no joy no cheer, only drawn faces of disappointed people. Israel had been promised that God would prepare for them a feast of rich food and choice wines, but Jesus finds a sad people as if they were in a wedding that had no wine. This has to change. Sadness must give way to joy when Christ is welcome, the situation changes. Jesus works His first miracle in the context of a marriage feast, a sign of the new covenant that he has come to celebrate. By giving the wine that cheers the human heart, Jesus signified a new dawn for humanity. SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS Bible and faith sharing sessions will resume in February. In the meantime, small Christian gathering will meet on Thursday after 1.00 PM at the parish hall. Joe Spencer has moved to Ohio to be with family while undergoing treatment. Next Sunday January 20, 2019 2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time Learn Swahili with Fr. Chumo Watu wa Mungu = God s people Miujiza = Miralcle Maji = water Divai = Wine New Parish App: Great tool for outreach/communication New Parish App Coming Soon! On the weekend of February 2nd & 3rd Immaculate Conception Church will launch our own app for iphone and Android smart phones. This will allow us to better communicate with you throughout the week and bring you relevant parish news and updates The app is very well designed and very intuitive. It will be a great resource for parishioners by providing daily Mass readings, Catholic news and prayers, convenient prayer and Confession reminders, our bulletins and more. At masses that weekend, parishioners will be available to provide instructions on how download the app and navigate all that it has to offer. We hope our new app will be a useful tool for fostering stronger parish life at Immaculate Conception Church and better engaging the New Evangelization. Volunteers needed for Catholic Charities: Catholic Charities free clothing closet is seeking volunteers to signup for weekly shifts, any day Tuesday-Friday from 1-3:30pm. Volunteers sort and stock donated items, and serve as clerks, although there is no charge for the items. This is an opportunity to show care and friendliness to people who struggle with poverty & loneliness, who need clothes for job interviews, school, or just to keep warm. Contact Michaela at 272-5062 ext. 17. A Notice from Catholic Charities Equal Rights for Farmworkers: Protecting workplace dignity is essential to protecting human dignity in general. We believe that workers have fundamental rights, including the right to organize themselves to petition for improved working conditions. In New York State, farmworkers are excluded from this and other basic rights granted to other workers. They can be fired if they collectively bring a grievance to their supervisor. During our upcoming Public Policy Weekend, please plan to sign the Diocese-wide petition to our state elected officials, urging them to support equal labor rights for farmworkers.
