Fairfax United Methodist Church Love God, Build Disciples, Connect Believers, Serve Neighbors Welcome Guests July 23, 2017 If you have prayers you would like the staff to lift up or to be on the prayer list, please complete one of the cards in the pew. Please visit our website at www.fairfaxumc.org, follow us on twitter @FairfaxUMC and on Facebook. Like us today! The flowers on the Altar this morning are given to the glory of God and in celebration of the 90th birthday of Garnett Bailey by Rita Bailey and Suzie and Jeff Sterrett. The Snowie bus continues for Fellowship Time from 10:30-11:15am and is with us each Sunday morning through July 30. Snowie offers 50 flavors of shaved ice near the Courtyard on Stratford Avenue. The cost is $1 per item. Plan time to get acquainted and enjoy a cool treat! The FACETS Back-to-School drive continues! Shopping lists and boxes for your donations are in the Narthex and outside of Fellowship Hall. This outreach ministry helps local students arrive at school with the necessary learning tools. All of our donations are delivered to the FACETS office next month for their clients to shop for their grade appropriate school needs. Thank you in advance. Our next Wonderful Wednesday is July 26 at 10am and includes a read aloud storytime and activities to go along with the book. At 11:00am, everyone is invited to the playground for playtime. Feel free to bring a snack or lunch to eat at the playground. Please make sure all food is peanut and tree nut free. Visit Fairfaxumc.org for sign up. Rebuilding Together (RT) Planning Meeting Today Are you interested in helping repair the homes of low-income homeowners in our community? If so, come today after the 9:30 service to the Multi-Purpose Room. RT has expanded from an annual event in April to year-round projects. FUMC needs to determine if our congregation wants to continue providing financial and/or work team support for this ministry. Learn how you can participate, regardless of skill level, and to speak up about this issue. If unable to attend today, please contact Mary McDaniel at 703-385-2149 or marsue@earthlink.net with questions or comments. For information about a recent RT project that FUMC supported go to www. fairfaxtimes.com and search for Oliver, click on Nonprofit Welcomes Fairfax City Resident Back Home.

Be a part of our new photo directory! Our last directory was printed in 2013. A lot has changed since then, and a new photo directory will help us capture these changes. Photos will be taken August 8 and 9 and September 29-October 2. Every participating family receives a free 8x10 portrait and a printed and electronic copy of our directory. Sign up today at https:// booknow-lifetouch.appointment-plus.com/y1x7remq/. Church newsletter to begin electronic delivery with the Fall 2017 issue! It looks exactly the same as the paper copy, and it can be saved on your computer for later referral rather than on the refrigerator. Our email roster currently used for church communications like Snippets and death notices and other contacts is the distribution list for the electronic newsletter. If you are on the email list and prefer to receive the paper copy, please notify the church office before August 15 at church@fairfaxumc.org. The Church is excited to continue growing and improving our communications. You can make a difference. If you enjoy interacting with people from different cultures, our ESL program needs you. Teachers and classroom helpers are needed for one evening a week to help our immigrant neighbors learn English. ESL volunteers help either on Monday OR Wednesday evenings from 7 9pm. The fall semester begins on Wednesday, September 6 and continues through Wednesday, November 15. Typically, we enroll 100 students from about 30 countries and offer six levels of classes ranging from very beginners to advanced learners. No prior experience is needed and a short training session is offered. Contact Judy Blanchard at judyblanchard47@gmail.com or at 703-591-1587. The Chancel Choir is invited to perform at the famous Carnegie Hall in New York City during June 8-12 of 2018! They are singing a large work with other select choirs from around the country accompanied by professional orchestra and led by a internationally renowned conductor. We are opening this unique opportunity to other singers and non-performing guests who would like to be a part of the experience. Please contact Jon Giblin (jgiblin@fairfaxumc.org) if you are interested in participating in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity; additional information is available on the church website.
