SEEING & BECOMING REALIZE YOUR POTENTIAL & BECOME A FULLY DEVOTED FOLLOWER OF CHRIST

WHAT DOES A FULLY DEVOTED

FOLLOWER OF CHRIST LOOK LIKE?

At Albuquerque s First Baptist Church, our vision is to develop people with a passion for God, a connection with people, and an impacting service. These three components serve as the foundation for a fully devoted follower of Christ. WHY BECOME A FULLY DEVOTED FOLLOWER? The transformation from a new believer to fully devoted follower requires discipline. We believe that the motivation for the journey comes from many sources, including love, obedience, and focus on heavenly rewards.

LOVE For Christ s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. 2 Corinthians 5:14 OBEDIENCE Jesus replied, If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and make our home with him. John 14:23 HEAVENLY REWARDS Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free. Ephesians 6:7-8

LEARNING GOD S WORD & UNDERSTANDING WHO GOD IS Learning God s Word is one of the first steps to becoming a fully devoted follower of Christ. As we read, study, and meditate on the Scripture, we begin to understand who God is and how much He loves His children. This brings about a hunger for His Word and compels us to follow Him in obedience, resulting in spiritual growth and transformation.

PRACTICING SPIRITUAL DICIPLINES There are many types of spiritual disciplines. Prayer, confession, personal worship, and meditation are but a few. As a follower of Christ grows in their relationship with the Lord, the practice of these spiritual disciplines, and others, will help them become a more balanced and devoted disciple.

MAKING DISCIPLES The Scripture is clear. It says to Go and make disciples. This command is not just for pastors and lay leaders; it is for each and everyone who calls Jesus Christ Lord. Sharing your faith with others, especially non-believers, can be intimidating but very rewarding. The first step is living a life of faith that others can see, a life that says, I m a fully devoted follower of Christ.

RESOURCES FOCUS GROUPS Demonstrating Faith Kevin Linthicum Learn to tell your story Learn how to use the Bible to share the Gospel Learn how to respond to questions Develop confidence in your ability to share the Gospel September 2013-3,10,17, and 24 October 2013-15,22,29, and November 5 January 2014-14,21,28, and February 4 March 2014-4,11,18, and 25

SERVING GOD Jesus came to serve rather than to be served. As we follow His example, we too should adopt the mindset of service. We are the hands and feet of Christ here on earth. God has given each one of His children spiritual gifts, which equip us to do the work He has planned for us. When we discover these gifts it becomes our desire to put them to use in building the Kingdom. Making a commitment to serve God is an important step in fulfilling our potential to become a fully devoted follower of Christ.

RESOURCES First Impressions Our First Impressions Team is responsible for making our visitors, guests, and members feel welcome and valued. Children & Preschool Ministry We have been given the privilege and the responsibility of teaching our children, infants through sixth grade, about Jesus. Each week we have the chance to demonstrate God s love through stories, songs, and service. For many families the volunteers in this ministry are the face of our church. Student Ministry Our student ministry seeks to honor God with their lives. They do this by living out the scripture Don t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. 1 Timothy 4:12 We need men and women who are willing to invest in the lives of our students and help us reach the leaders of tomorrow.

Common Grounds Cafe If you enjoy coffee, love helping people find resources to fit their needs, or simply want to be part of a welcoming environment, this is the place for you! Music Ministry The Music Ministry and Worship Team provides Spirit-led leadership in God-honoring corporate worship. If you love music and have a heart for worship we invite you to be part of our Music Ministry. Auditions are not required, just a desire for God to use you in a powerful way. Creative Arts In today s church, art and visual media serve as great tools to communicate the Gospel. Albuquerque s FBC needs dedicated men and women who enjoy using their creative gifts and would like to participate in the worship services through art and visual media. Missions & Outreach Albuquerque s First Baptist Church is committed to spreading the Gospel through our mission efforts around our city and the world.
