God, who is invisible and truly beyond human understanding, apparently faces the same difficulty. People want to see, not just listen to an idea. So God gave us Jesus Christ, God made visible in the world. During these past weeks we have seen how Jesus was revealed as an infant to the shepherds and the magi, and then began his adult public life at his baptism by John. Today s Gospel reading tells us of his first sign, providing wine for the wedding guests at Cana. Of course, even Jesus, God made visible, was not always easily understood in his own day, nor is he even now. So we have to ponder what we see: the poverty and simplicity of his birth, his humility and openness before John the Baptist, his kindness and compassion toward people in their ordinary problems, such as running short of wine at a wedding. Yet it is in coming to know Jesus that we come to know God Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. Dear Parishioners, This weekend our country observes the birthday of Dr. Mar n Luther King, Jr. His name is synonymous with the quest for racial harmony and non violent protests. While we Americans have made progress in civil rights, the effects of racism s ll linger in our society. It is our duty to do all we can to eradicate the sin of racism from our lives. Our novena, 9 Days for Life, will conclude on Tuesday, January 22nd, the 46th Anniversary of the Supreme Court s decision to legalize abor on in our country. Today, Sunday, January 20th, we will have adora on a er the 12:00pm mass with novena prayers and Benedic on at 1:00pm. On Monday and Tuesday, we will have the adora on following the 11:45am mass with prayers and Benedic on at 1:00pm. Next Sunday, January 27th, we will begin Catholic Schools Week and the observance will begin at the 9:00am mass. All are welcome to par cipate in the mass and tour the school a er mass. On Tuesday, January 29th, the members who par cipated in Arise will gather for a social, so save the date. Father Samy will return today a er a brief visit to his family in India. One of his sisters is a Religious who ministers in Zambia, Africa, and she has had a home visit a er three years. It was great that Father could get home to see her, but we re happy to have him back in his home away from home. Father Espinal will get a winter break beginning tomorrow and I ll get one in mid February. Let s pray for each other, Msgr. Kevin B. Noone

Advent Christmas Trees Once again, you put a smile on many a face for Christmas. The gifts were generous and numbered over a thousand. the receiving agencies are grateful. Such a beautiful time. Jesus comes to us and allows us to give to others. The packing of these wondrous gifts were done by Mary Lawler, Loretta Monahan, Tom Kramer and his scout troop, affectionately called the cavalry. Without their energy and stamina the job would be endless. The scouts come in and we rock. Up until the gathering of the gifts, Ann Carraher and Mary Stuart monitor the tree ornaments. We thank all who are involved and apologize for leaving any one out. God knows who you are. Deo Gratias. Wishing you all a blessed and happy New Year! Holy Angels Catholic Academy Dear Parishioner Families, Our communi es and world need leaders with a founda on in their faith and strong moral values. That s the goal of catholic educa on at Holy Angels Catholic Academy, where students find a nurturing, yet rigorous learning environment based in Christ s teachings. At the Academy, each child grows in meaningful ways, learning they are part of something much greater than themselves and feeling empowered to reach for their highest poten al. When our students go on to high school, they not only succeed academically, they also are viewed as compassionate, intellectually strong, faith-filled leaders. We recognize the cost of a Catholic educa on may be a barrier to realizing all these benefits. Our parishes are commi ed to working with each interested family to provide need-based scholarship support to make the Academy s tui on possible. Expand your knowledge of Holy Angels Catholic Academy by taking a tour and seeing what we offer. You will meet our dedicated faculty and familiarize yourself with the challenging academic programs and learning opportuni es available.
