Grace Grows Here.... and Keeps on Growing!!! FCCW landscaping project is progressing! A group has been working on the flowers around the building: Leo Baker, Bob Bargfrede, Doc Crawford, Larry Gunter, Pam Gunter, Tony Huff, Russell Lee, Wayne McTyre, James Norman, Nancy Watkins. ACTS (Area Churches Together Serving) The Annual meeting of ACTS was held on March 16th with 40 people attending. There were 22 of the 29 churches represented. Reports were given for 2015. ACTS provided 2,488 boxes and bags of food to Oconee clients in need. Plus, ACTS provided 383 boxes of food to Seniors to free up their funds for medicines and utility bills. This sums up to 2,871 food distributions to our Oconee families! This ministry of food distributions required over 200,000 items of food for the year!!! These donations come from food drives from churches and donations of money. Our church is down to work ACTS on April 5th from 9-1. This will be to work with clients and to stock the shelves with food. Please consider volunteering at this time. Our long time chairman, Reiny Hiss, has tendered his resignation effective at the end of this year. We are looking for someone to fill those BIG shoes. Reiny has carried this group to high levels of which we hope to continue. He will still be there for ACTS but just not in the chairman position. The Closet Gals which are made up of mostly members of this church have worked hard to keep the closets filled with good gently used clothing and clients can now get two paper grocery bags filled with clothes. In 2015 the Closet Gals worked an estimated 864 hours! Members can always bring good in season clothing or canned goods to the fellowship hall and mark for ACTS. Thank you to this church for being such a BIG part of ACTS! Pam Crawford (ACTS Board Member) 6

Diaconate News A quarterly Diaconate meeting was held on March 13, 2016 with 9 Diaconate attending. Carol Toney volunteered to send cards during the second quarter (April, May, and June). Thanks to Pam Crawford for serving in this capacity for the first quarter. Connie Peterman will serve as the Diaconate representative on the Endowment Fund Committee. One Diaconate representative is needed to serve on the Pastoral Relations Committee. Please prayerfully consider serving on this committee and contact Karen Finnerty or Max Taylor if feel led to serve in this capacity. Karen and Max have a document provided by Rev. Sheila Hunter that describes the duties, responsibilities, and function of the Pastoral Relations Committee. Please ask to look over this document if you are interested. Several Diaconate members assisted with Baptisms prior to and throughout the service on March 6. Thanks to Pam Crawford and Tracy Henson for assisting, behind the scenes, with Baptism candidates during the service. Also, thanks to Maria Reese for embroidering the Baptism handkerchiefs used for each candidate. Thanks to Pam Crawford for preparing and presenting a Chalice card from the church to each candidate. Candidates were also presented with a congratulatory card signed by many members of the congregation. Pam Crawford mailed 7 cards in March to members of the congregation. Diaconate members will be needed as volunteers on First Friday, April 1 st and at Relay for Life on April 22. Please let Pam Gunter, chair of the Outreach Committee, if you can assist with these volunteer opportunities. Please remember to let Karen Finnerty or Max Taylor know if you provide food for members of the congregation so that we can keep a record of Diaconate service. Submitted by Karen Finnerty Diaconate Co-chair Our Mission Watkinsville First Christian Church is called to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ to all people. Our mission is to be a compassionate, caring, inclusive congregation seeking unity and striving for harmony God calls us to serve, guide, teach and witness to all people and to lay a faithful foundation by forgiving others and reconciling our differences while uniting one another in a community of faith We minister to all ages by using our gifts and talents in a kind, open, honest and loving spirit through our outreach and mission programs. Our Beliefs The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) does stress freedom and diversity among its members, and we do share some basic beliefs. We affirm the Bible is God s Word, which is a guide for Christian living and faith that it truly reveals God s purpose. We believe in salvation through the grace of God and by faith of the individual. In our quest to embody Christian unity, led and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we believe God calls us: To be a faith, growing church, that demonstrates true community, deep spirituality and a passion for justice. (Micah 6:8) 7
