Serving In Worship Today Acolyte: Mansa Lyons Acolyte: Reghan Johnson Greeters: Joyce Johnson Reader: Kathie Kirschenmann Reader: Quiwonyen Hallowanger Ushers: Rosie Williams Alter Guild: Dorothy Jackson Alter Gld: Betty Williams About Today s Service Jesus manifests His glory at the wedding feast at Cana, changing ordinary water into exquisite wine. The Church treasures this divine action of Christ, remembering, believing, and receiving forgiveness in Jesus divine blood, in, under, and with ordinary wine. God in Christ binds Himself to His people, from desolate forsaken Israel to the Holy Church of today. She is the Bride, and He the Bridegroom, whose resolute faithfulness seals the marriage covenant with us forever. About Holy Communion In the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod we believe that in Communion, Jesus is really and truly present. He gives us Himself to assure us that in Him we are forgiven. It also is a statement of unity, that all who come to Communion are in agreement of faith and doctrine. Because this is something very special, and is more than bread and wine, we ask that you first talk to the pastor before coming up for Communion. You are certainly Welcome at the Altar and may receive a Blessing at the rail simply by waving off the acceptance of the elements. Some will cross their arms in front to signify this desire for simply receiving a Blessing in Christ. Thank you. 2

Invocation Please stand as you are able The sign of the cross may be made by all in remembrance of their Baptism. P In the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen. P Beloved in the Lord! Let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins unto God our Father, beseeching Him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness. P Our help is in the name of the Lord, C who made heaven and earth. P I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord, C and You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Silence for reflection on God s Word and for self-examination. P O almighty God, merciful Father, C I, a poor, miserable sinner, confess unto You all my sins and iniquities with which I have ever offended You and justly deserved Your temporal and eternal punishment. But I am heartily sorry for them and sincerely repent of them, and I pray You of Your boundless mercy and for the sake of the holy, innocent, bitter sufferings and death of Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to be gracious and merciful to me, a poor, sinful being. P Upon this your confession, I, by virtue of my office, as a called and ordained servant of the Word, announce the grace of God unto all of you, and in the stead and by the command of my Lord Jesus Christ I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen. 4

Service of the Word Introit Ps. 36:5 9; antiphon: Song 2:4 P [The Lord] brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love. C Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. P Your righteousness is like the mountains of God; your judgments are like the great deep; man and beast you save, O LORD. C How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings. P They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights. C For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light. P [The Lord] brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love. 5

Salutation and Collect of the Day 7

P Almighty and everlasting God, who governs all things in heaven and on earth, mercifully hear the prayers of Your people and grant us Your peace through all our days; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Please be seated Old Testament Reading Isaiah 62:1 5 1 For Zion s sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem s sake I will not be quiet, until her righteousness goes forth as brightness, and her salvation as a burning torch. 2 The nations shall see your righteousness, and all the kings your glory, and you shall be called by a new name that the mouth of the LORD will give. 3 You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the LORD, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God. 4 You shall no more be termed Forsaken, and your land shall no more be termed Desolate, but you shall be called My Delight Is in Her, and your land Married; for the LORD delights in you, and your land shall be married. 5 For as a young man marries a young woman, so shall your sons marry you, and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you. A This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God. 8

Epistle 1 Corinthians 12:1 11 1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed. 2 You know that when you were pagans you were led astray to mute idols, however you were led. 3 Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says Jesus is accursed! and no one can say Jesus is Lord except in the Holy Spirit. 4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5 and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; 6 and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. 7 To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 8 To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills. A This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God. Please stand as you are able Alleluia and Verse 9

Holy Gospel John 2:1 11 P The Holy Gospel according to St. John, the second chapter. 1 On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2 Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples. 3 When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, They have no wine. 4 And Jesus said to her, Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come. 5 His mother said to the servants, Do whatever he tells you. 6 Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. 7 Jesus said to the servants, Fill the jars with water. And they filled them up to the brim. 8 And he said to them, Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast. So they took it. 9 When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom 10 and said to him, Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now. 11 This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him. P This is the Gospel of the Lord. Please be seated Children s Message 10

Nicene Creed C I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end. And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life T of the world to come. Amen. Service of the Sacrament Preface LSB 194 P It is truly meet, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, holy Lord, almighty Father, everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord; for what had been hidden from before the foundation of the world You have made known to the nations in Your Son. In Him, being found in the substance of our mortal nature, You have manifested the fullness of Your glory. Therefore with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and saying: 16
