For All the Saints and Sinners FEAST OF ALL SAINTS November 1, 2015

Ebenezer Lutheran Church Port Hudson The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod 9100 Highway YY Leslie, Missouri Parsonage 573-459-6432 Church 573-459-6431 Rev. William F. Zastrow, Pastor Mary Sprick, Secretary ebenezerlutheran@hotmail.com ebenezerlutheranchurch.wordpress.com AS WE GATHER: Today is the Feast of All Saints. This is an occasion to remember with thanksgiving to God all people redeemed by Jesus throughout the ages, and especially our own loved ones who have died in the Lord. The love of God is astonishing. The Lord takes pleasure in His people; He adorns the humble with salvation. God even calls us His own dear children! He calls us from every nation, tribe, peoplegroup, and language. He calls us poor sinners the poor in spirit who hunger for righteousness. We, though burdened by our sins, trust in Jesus, our Savior, who has given all for us to live in communion with God. Today is a day of rejoicing not that we or our departed loved ones have been such great saints, but that our Savior has graciously numbered us along with all His saints as His own beloved people. For all this we sing to the Lord a new song of thanksgiving and praise! PRAYER BEFORE WORSHIP: Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, by Your Spirit, You have called, gathered, enlightened, and sanctified people from every corner and age of Your good creation to become saints in the fellowship of Your Son, Jesus. Grant that in both faith and life, we follow the example of Your saints who have gone before us that, together with them, we may inherit Your kingdom, which has no end, and evermore sing Your praises; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and 2

forever. Amen. Feast of All Saints Divine Service DIVINE SERVICE II, page 158 HYMN OF PRAISE, This is the Feast of Victory OPENING HYMN For All the Saints LW 191 SERMON HYMN Sing with All the Saints in Glory Hymn Tune: Ode to Joy 1 Sing with all the saints in glory; Sing the resurrection song! Death and sorrow, earth s dark story, To the former days belong. All around the clouds are breaking. Soon the storms of time shall cease. In God s likeness we awaken, Knowing everlasting peace. 2 Oh, what glory far exceeding All that eye has yet perceived! Holiest hearts for ages pleading Never that full joy conceived. God has promised, Christ prepares it, There on high our welcome waits. Ev ry humble spirit shares it. Christ has passed th eternal gates. 3 Life eternal! Heav n rejoices: Jesus lives who once was dead. Shout with joy, O deathless voices! Child of God, lift up your head! 3

Life eternal! Oh, what wonders Crowd on faith, what joy unknown, When amid earth s closing thunders, Saints shall stand before the throne! Text: William J. Irons, Public Domain Tune: Ode To Joy, Public Domain FIRST COMMUNION HYMN Hark! The Sound of Holy Voices Tune: Galilean LW 318 Hark! The sound of holy voices Chanting at the crystal sea, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Lord, to Thee. Multitudes which none can number Like the stars in glory stand, Clothed in white apparel, holding Palms of vict ry in their hand. Patriarch and holy prophet, Who prepared the way of Christ, King, apostle, saint, confessor, Martyr, and evangelist, Saintly maiden, godly matron, Widows who have watched to prayer, Joined in holy concert, singing To the Lord of all, are there. They have come from tribulation And have washed their robes in blood, Washed them in the blood of Jesus; Tried they were, and firm they stood. Mocked, imprisoned, stoned, tormented, Sawn asunder, slain with sword, 4

They have conquered death and Satan By the might of Christ the Lord. Marching with Thy cross, their banner, They have triumphed, following Thee, the Captain of salvation, Thee, their Savior and their King. Gladly, Lord, with Thee they suffered, Gladly, Lord, with Thee they died, And by death to life immortal They were born and glorified. Now they reign in heavenly glory, Now they walk in golden light, Now they drink, as from a river, Holy bliss and infinite. Love and peace they taste forever And all truth and knowledge see In the beatific vision Of the blessed Trinity. God of God, the One-begotten Light of Light, Emmanuel, In whose body, joined together, All the saints forever dwell, Pour upon us of Thy fullness That we may forevermore God the Father, God the Spirit, One with Thee on high, adore. Text: Christopher Wordsworth, 1807 85. Public domain. Tune: GALILEAN, Joseph Barnby. Public domain. SECOND COMMUNION HYMN Blessed are the Dying Tune: JESU, MEINE FREUDE LW 270 5

Blessed are the dying Who on God relying Trust His Word, secure. Heaven they inherit; Yes, declares the Spirit, And their works endure. God by grace prepares their place They depend upon His favor, Look to Christ as Savior. Great the tribulation Saints from ev ry nation Suffered in their strife; At the end, triumphant And with joy abundant, Gained eternal life. In the flood of cleansing blood, They have washed their robes, erasing All of sin s defacing. Dressed in white before Him, Ever they adore Him, Serve Him night and day. Never shall they hunger, Thirst shall be no longer, Tears are wiped away For the Lamb, the great I AM, Shepherds them to living waters As His sons and daughters. Vision cannot capture The unending rapture Of the bliss above. Who can tell the story Of the weight of glory 6

Saved for us in love? None on earth can know the worth, None can guess the brilliant splendor God will freely render! Text: Stephen P. Starke. Copyright 1994 Stephen P. Starke, admin. We also want to especially thank all the members and families who donated the pies and bread, we certainly appreciate your donations and all the work that went into getting things ready including potatoes. We served approximately 807 meals! And lots of appreciation goes to the committee for handling all the details and pulling it all together. Over $2,000 was collected for our Mission Projects! Mission Society The Mission Society meeting will be held on Monday, November 16 th. We will meet at 6:30 PM to sew rice bags for Mercy Hospital before our meeting. The important business will be allocating our funds from the Country Store for our Mission Projects!
