Happenings & Needs The Five First Saturdays devotion Our Lady of Fatima appeared to 3 children in 1917, and requested a particular devotion on 5 consecutive FIRST Saturdays. This devotion is one of the principal points of the Fatima message. It centers on the urgent need for mankind to offer reparation and expiate for the many injuries that the Immaculate Heart of Mary suffers from the hands of both impious and indifferent men. To help you fulfill this request made by Our Lady of Fatima, plan to attend our First Saturday Masses on November 3, December 1, January 5, February 2,March 2, April 6, and May 4. On the First Saturday during 5 Consecutive Months, the Devotion consists of 1) Going to Confession, 2) Receiving the Sacrament of Holy Communion, 3) Saying five decades of the Rosary, and 4) Meditating for 15 minutes on the mysteries of the Rosary. All offered in REPARATION for the sins of blasphemy and ingratitude committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary. In the spirit of Opus Dei, the next Recollection is: Men-Friday, 26 Oct. at 7p reception to follow in the Parish House. Women-Saturday, 27 October at 9a, reception to follow in the Parish House. 2019 ATTRACTION COUPON BOOKS containing discounts for local merchants and restaurants are for sale ($20) by contacting Cheryl Wargo at 864-879- 7671 or dropping by the parish office. Lanterns shipped from Lourdes will be used to light the way! Churching of Mothers is a very ancient blessing for mothers after the birth of their child. In the Old Testament, mothers undertook a purification ritual after birth. With Jesus, we are all purified at baptism, so there is no longer a need for that. But for many centuries, mothers would come to church and ask the priest for a special blessing in thanksgiving for their child. Because it was often the first time they came to church after their recovery, in English speaking countries, it was often referred to as churching. For the second year, we would like to add to our increasingly diverse celebration of blessings throughout the year a communal churching for all women who have had a child in the past year who want to give thanks to God for the life of their child by means of this special blessing. Next Sunday (14 October) at the 10a Mass, we will revive once again this ancient custom as a means of observing Respect Life Month. Cursillo is an apostolic movement in the Catholic church. Learn more by contacting Michael Thompson at 864.449.7845. Men gather weekly at 6.30a on Tuesdays at the Chick-fil-A on Pelham Road. This admission includes access to our designated swimming area when it is open. Call John Olson with questions!
