Special Human Life International Pilgrimage of the Black Madonna Comes to the Pacific Northwest. http://www.hli.org/hli_campaigns/ocean-ocean-pilgrimage/ Fr. Peter West will bring the icon replica to the Pacific Ocean on July 4, 2014 in Astoria OR. He will then travel to several parishes in the Pacific Northwest during the month. In the summer of 2012, a group of Catholic and Orthodox faithful began a global campaign in support of life and family under the patronage of Our Lady of Czestochowa (the Black Madonna ). Starting in Vladivostok, Russia, the Ocean to Ocean Campaign in Defense of Life has received the support and blessings of numerous bishops and is expected to circle the globe and enkindle a sustainable movement to build a culture of life. The campaign is based on the pilgrimage of an icon of Our Lady of Czestochowa which has already traveled over 40 thousand miles, traversed 24 countries, visited 75 cathedrals and 60 Orthodox churches in over 400 cities; and has been venerated by hundreds of thousands since the campaign began. Along the way, bishops and priests have celebrated liturgies and have given talks to inspire greater devotion to the Blessed Mother and to awaken the faithful to the urgency of recovering a true culture of life. With these visits, local parishes, shrines and other venues have hosted viewings, celebrated Mass, marched in procession, held prayer vigils at Abortion clinics, hosted adoration hours, heard speakers and coordinated events around her visit. Father Peter West is the Vice President for Missions at Human Life International. In 2011, Father Peter West joined HLI, celebrated his 20th anniversary as a priest, and 25 years of defending the right to life of the most vulnerable members of society. He came to HLI after 13 years with Priests for Life, where he served as Associate Director. For more information go to: http://www.hli.org/hli_campaigns/ocean-ocean-pilgrimage/ Visits have been scheduled by the parish priests and approved by the Archdiocese. Times of events are set by the individual parishes. For details, visit parish websites, look in bulletins or phone the office.
