PARISH NEWS FAMILY MASSES HAVE BEGUN Have you ever been to a Family Mass? These Masses are scheduled during a break from our regular Good Shepherd sessions to help the children connect what they are learning in the atrium to what happens when we gather as a community for the Holy Mass. Children bring with them their knowledge of church seasons and colors, prayer and gestures, parables and prophecy. Parents model full participation in liturgy through active listening, spoken prayer and song. We invite our Parish Family to join our Good Shepherd Families at these special Masses. Family Masses take place at both 4:30 and 6:30 pm on these Wednesdays: February 3, 10 (Ash Wednesday) & Feb. 17. Where else do you have the opportunity on a week night to join in worship with a church full of spirited adults and children? Let us come together in praise and thanksgiving for the great gift of Word and Eucharist. The traditional blessing of throats (Feast of St. Blaise) will take place at the end of the Family Masses on Weds., Feb. 3. All are welcome to join us. MINDFULNESS MADE SIMPLE Lots of talk in the media about the benefits of MIND- FULNESS. Come on Tuesday, Feb. 2 at 7 pm to hear about the simple ways we can develop this healthy practice. Jane Rahenkamp, a professional life coach, will share what it is and how it can enhance our physical and spiritual life journey. Come and invite others to learn about this ancient practice of mindfulness. Free and open to all. 5th SUNDAY ROSARY Please join us after the 9:30 am Mass today in this wonderful tribute to Mary. MONDAY SCHOOL A surprising large number of families in our area have been affected by addiction. Come and learn about what it is, how it affects us directly and indirectly and what our Pittsburgh Diocese is doing about it. Join us for Monday School on February 15 to hear Josie Morgano-Craig as she tell us about the Substance Addiction Ministry of our Diocese. Curious about how addiction can affect the addict and everyone who loves him or her? Come and hear from brave families who have struggled with the pain of addiction on February 22 for Monday School. Discussion and suggestions about outreach will follow. THE BEATITUDES FOR TODAY S m a l l G r o u p s F o r m i n g Today is Signup Sunday for SJN small groups that meet to share our faith journeys. During Lent, we ll pray about and study the gift that Jesus gave us - the beatitudes. This is a continuation of the Fall session, and new members are welcome. We hope you can join us! Stop by the Renew table in Bovard Hall after all the Masses to learn more about the small group experience. Groups will meet for six weeks, beginning the week of February 7. We have groups that meet most days of the week, at different times. Blessed is the Word! For more information, please contact Linda Young at: linda.young1@verizon.net. WOMEN & SCRIPTURE Clear your calendar for this Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 7 pm, to participate and reflect on two more women in our Scripture story. Lynn Hogan will lead the group in reading and seeking the wisdom of women of faith. Their stories are different from ours but their truth is always powerful. Come join a delightful group of women to study God s Word. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION, FEBRUARY 3 For those on the St. John Neumann prayer list Please join us for prayer, February 3rd, as we lift up all those names on the St. John Neumann prayer list. Eucharistic Adoration will begin immediately following the 6:30 p.m. Mass. Lent begins February 10th. Begin preparing your heart for this very special time in the Church year by spending some quiet time with Jesus. RESPECT LIFE The parish will be hosting The Innocents, a pro-life artwork, from February 6 th -12 th. The painting is made up of images of babies faces and portrays the innocent lives lost to abortion by the local Planned Parenthood in 2013. Together, the images form a mosaic in the image of Mary and baby Jesus. It will be displayed in the Atrium. More details about The Innocents can be found in today s Bulletin flyer. LENT IS COMING - FEB. 10 Christmas decorations are finally put away and we just entered this very short ordinary time! And now our thoughts turn to LENT! Don t greet it unprepared. Check out our amazing resources for all ages on the lobby table. Choose something for yourself and then consider the others who need you to invite them into the Year of Mercy this Lent. Pick something for them and maybe even mail it to them. And always - let s keep each other in prayer as we get ready to fully enter the Paschal Mystery this Easter - March 27!
