MORNING WORSHIP SERVICE Ingathering Sunday, October 21 10:00 a.m. ORGAN PRELUDE: Sweet Hour of Prayer Tune by William B. Bradbury (1816-1868) Arranged by Dale Wood (1934-2003) *[Please stand for the lighting of the candles] CALL TO WORSHIP Bless God, our God, for God is to be praised. God is our example, our guide, our source, and the culmination of a well lived life. God loves us through our loving of others. There is nothing more joyous than to share God s love with others. *HYMN: You Servants of God, Your Sovereign Proclaim NCH 305 ANNOUNCEMENTS PRAYER OF INVOCATION God, make us instruments of your peace. Where there is hatred, let us sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, Grant that we may not so much seek to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in the giving, that we receive; It is in the pardoning that we are pardoned, It is in the dying that we are born again to eternal life. Amen.
*THE LORD'S PRAYER (trespasses) Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory forever. Amen. *GLORIA PATRI: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen SCRIPTURE READING: Hebrews 6:4-10 ANTHEM: Come, You People, Rise and Sing Text: Cyril A. Alington (1872-1955) Tune: Boundless Mercy, from Union Harmony, 1830 Arranged by Kenneth Dake (b. 1961) Come, you people rise and sing praise to God who made you, And to heaven s eternal King bring the prayers God bade you. Bring your praise for mercies past, all God s love confessing, And in life, while life shall last, ask your Maker s blessing. Praise we God the only Son who in mercy sought us; Born to save a world undone, out of death he brought us; Here, awhile he showed his love, suffered uncomplaining; Now he pleads for us above, ris n ascended, reigning! Creator, Son, and Holy Ghost, help us to adore you, Till with all the angel host low we fall before you, Till throughout our earthly days, guided, loved, forgiven, We can blend our songs of praise with the song of heaven! MORNING PRAYER May God be with you. And also with you. Let us pray, O Christ, show us your mercy; and grant us salvation. Make clean our hearts within us; and take not your Holy Spirit from us. Let us offer our prayers... CONGREGATION S JOYS AND CONCERNS SILENT PRAYER - PASTORAL PRAYER - CHORAL RESPONSE
SCRIPTURE READING: Mark 10:35-45 *HYMN: Take My Life, God, Let It Be NCH 448 SERMON: Giving and Getting the Full Measure MOMENT OF MEDITATION OFFERTORY SENTENCE OFFERTORY ANTHEM: My song is love unknown, My Savior s love to me; Love to the loveless shown, That they might lovely be. O who am I, that for my sake My Lord should take, frail flesh and die? Sometimes they strew His way, And His sweet praises sing; Resounding all the day Hosannas to their King: Then Crucify! is all their breath And for His death they thirst and cry. Why, what hath my Lord done? To cause this rage and spite? He made the lame to run, He gave the blind their sight, Sweet injuries! Yet they at these Are why the Lord most High so cruely dies. Here might l stay and sing, Of Him my soul adores; Never was love, dear King! Never was grief like yours. This is my Friend, in Whose sweet praise I all my days could gladly spend. My Song Is Love Unknown Words by Samuel Crossman (ca. 1624-1683) Music by Edwin T. Childs (b. 1945) *DOXOLOGY: Praise God from whom all blessings flow, Praise God all creatures here below, Praise God above ye heavenly host, Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Notes On Today s Anthem Come, You People, Rise and Sing is a joyful American folk tune entitled Boundless Mercy, which first appeared in the Union Harmony one of several collections of shape-note hymns which were published in the early 19 th century. Shape-note notation was conceived in an effort to make music more accessible to the untrained singer. It also provided a means by which the oral heritage of Celtic folk tunes were published and spread among congregations and singing communities throughout southern and rural areas of the country. Remarkably, the tune of "Come, You People, Rise and Sing" consists of only four notes, and yet it serves as a cheerful, rousing testament to God s goodness. This music is meant to be proclaimed, not just merely sung! FLOWERS FOR THE ALTAR Please call Penny Lapham at 978-526- 7128, by Monday to be included in the following Sunday s bulletin.
