The prelude is your invitation to quiet preparation for the worship of Almighty God. GATHERING AS GOD S PEOPLE PRELUDE Jesus Loves Me arr. Carolyn Hamlin WELCOME Barbara Gorsky CALL TO WORSHIP One: We will give thanks to you, O Lord, with our whole heart; All: we will tell all of your wonderful deeds. One: We will be glad and exult in you; All: we will sing praise to your name, O Most High. One: Let us worship God! HYMN 275 A Mighty Fortress Is Our God Ein Feste Burg CALL TO CONFESSION Joy Fick PRAYER OF CONFESSION Have mercy on me, O God, in your faithful love; in your great tenderness wipe away my offenses; wash me thoroughly from my guilt, purify me from my sin. For I am well aware of my offenses; my sin is constantly in mind. But you delight in sincerity of heart, and those who listen to your wisdom. God, create in me a clean heart, renew within me a resolute spirit. Give me back the joy of your salvation, sustain in me a generous spirit. Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will speak out your praise. We pray this in the name of our Lord and savior, Jesus Christ. SILENT CONFESSION WORDS OF FORGIVENESS GLORIA PATRI (Hymn 581) Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen. PASSING THE PEACE One: The Peace of Jesus Christ be with you. All: And also with you. One: Let us share the peace of Christ with one another. ANTHEM Rise and Shine Rick Altizer Children s Choirs SECOND SCRIPTURE READING Genesis 6:18-22 (Pew Bible, Old Testament, p. 5) The Word of the Lord/Thanks be to God! SERMON The Art of Listening Alex Lang AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (excerpt from the Brief Statement of Faith) In life and in death we belong to God. Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve. We trust in God, whom Jesus called Abba, Father. In sovereign love God created the world good and makes everyone equally in God s image male and female, of every race and people, to live as one community. Loving us still, God makes us heirs with Christ of the covenant. Like a mother who will not forsake her nursing child, like a father who runs to welcome the prodigal home, God is faithful still. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Amen. HYMN 816 If Thou but Trust in God to Guide Thee Wer Nur Den Lieben Gott GIVING THANKS TO GOD PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Beth Freese Dammers LORD S PRAYER Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. OFFERING OFFERTORY God Is My Rock Paul Leddington Wright God is my rock, God is my fortress, God is our rock and our fortress, our stronghold, a very present help in time of need. How precious are His thoughts to me, if I should count them, if I should count them, they are more than numbers in the sands. Search me, O God, and know my heart, try me, O God, and know my thoughts. Lead me, O God, in the way everlasting. God, my rock, God, my fortress, God, my stronghold. My God, my King, my Savior everlasting. The Chancel Choir and First Pres Brass
