4 www.newsband.in 3 June 2018 Sudha Murthy and Dr. Sekhar Basu lay foundation stone for INFOSYS Asha Niwas NAVI MUMBAI: Known for their philanthropic outlook and serving the underprivileged society at large over the past few decades, Bengaluru based Infosys Foundation have joined hands with Tata Memorial Centre* (TMC), to provide free/ subsidized accommodation in the next couple of years, for tens of thousands of poor Cancer patients and their care givers from across the nation, undergoing treatment at Kharghar based Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research, and Education (ACTREC) or at Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH), Parel. The ball was set rolling by Chairperson, Infosys Foundation, Sudha Murthy and Chairman Atomic Energy Commission & Secretary Dept. of Atomic Energy, Dr. Sekhar Basu, who jointly laid the foundation stone for the Infosys Asha Niwas during the Bhoomi poojan ceremony amidst vedic chants and traditional rituals on Friday 1st June 2018. The planned ground plus 12 storey residential building to be built inside the picturesque 60 acre AC- TREC campus will have 260 self-contained rooms for patients and their attendants. Spread over approximately Two- lakh square feet, it will also have facilities like dining, laundry in addition to ancillary facilities like Library, Prayer room, Parking etc. and is expected to be completed over a period of 18-24 months. Sharing her thoughts to an august gathering which included of top officials and employees of AC- TREC / TMC and well wishers, Chairperson, Sudha Murthy said We are happy to be as- Sudha Murthy, Chairperson, Infosys Foundation and Dr. Shekhar Basu, Chairman AEC & Sec. Sathe, CAO, TMC, Dr. Vani Parmar, Prof & Surgeon, Surgical Oncology, TMH, Dr. Kailash Sharma, Director, Academics, TMC, S. H. Jafri Sr. PRO TMC, Dr. Narayan H.K.V., Dy. Director, ACTREC among others. About Tata Memorial Centre*: TMC is a Grant in Aid Institute under the Department of Atomic Energy Govt. of India. Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH) located in Parel and Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research, and Education (ACTREC) located in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai along with CCE- Mumbai, HBCHRC- Vishakhapatnam, HBCH- Sangrur(Punjab), BBCI- Guwahati and HBCH- Varanasi are part of TMC. Its mission is to provide comprehensive cancer care to one and all through our motto of excellence in service, education and research. sociated with Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH) and Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research, and Education (AC- TREC), who have been doing yeomen services in providing subsidized treatment to Cancer patients at their premises over the years. Since many of these patients who register are from outside of Mumbai/Navi Mumbai they have difficulty in finding affordable accommodation and end up living on pavements as treatments can be protracted. Recognizing this hardship we have offered to build a building (Asha Nivas) in the AC- TREC campus which will provide free/subsidized accommodation and will enable poor patients to benefit from treatments made available in ACTREC/TMH. The Asha Nivas (Dharamshala as per ancient scriptures) will be fifth one in the country that will be built with support from our Foundation. I hope this will motivate many others to participate and support such social initiatives be it at any level. Chairman AEC & Sec. DAE, Govt. of India, Dr. Sekhar Basu while speaking to this Newsband Correspondent shared Tata Memorial Hospital & Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research, and Education have been treating approximately 10 lakh patients annually, of which 70 thousands are added every year. Since these Cancer patients come from various parts of the country with different variants and stages of this dreaded disease, our priority is to provide the best quality treatment at affordable (subsidized rates) to these patients. However there are chances one needs to stay back over a period of time, in order to continue with the course of treatment. Providing residential accommodation to such patients and their care givers is next to impossible, as our prime focus is on proper treatment and advanced research. To address this issue Infosys Foundation Bengaluru has generously offered to build a building (Asha Nivas) in our AC- TREC campus in Kharghar. We hope that this philanthropic support will go a long way in en- Unveiling the plaque An artistic impression of the planned INFOSYS Asha Niwas schedule to be complete in a time frame of 18-24 months within the ACTREC campus. suring high survival rate among the patients as they won t abandon their treatment for lack of accommodation facility. He further added ACTREC which is the state-of-the-art R&D unit of the Tata Memorial Centre and also includes under its umbrella TMH, the largest cancer hospital in Asia, has been in the forefront in sharing expertise on treating this dreaded diseases. For this it has set up a National Cancer Grid which has 100 plus hospitals, major cancer centers, research institutes etc. across the country as it members. The same establishes uniform standards of patient care for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer, providing specialized training and education in oncology and facilitating collaborative basic, translational and clinical research in cancer. A cancer patient too participates in the Bhoomi poojan.

6 www.newsband.in Issue : 29 3 June, 2018 Leave Bollywood alone BJP is pitching for original nomenclature in Indian languages for film industries. Information and Broadcasting Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore is being asked to coin an appropriate name for the Hindi film industry. This plea is being made by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiy. A renowned Bollywood director was heard saying that the term Bollywood now used to refer to the Hindi film industry was a derogatory reference coined by foreign media, as though we were a pale copy of Hollywood. This hurts our selfrespect, he said. In 1998, the then NDA (National Democratic Alliance) government under Atalji (former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee) conferred industry status on the Indian film industry, and freed it from the shackles of the mafia and its illegal finances. Now, institutional finance is available to make films, and the change is showing in terms of the clean-up that has happened. This NDA government could also contribute to the change in the way the industry is named, something that will reflect self-respect and pride When there is nothing to do, the politicians change the name of Streets, Roads or even Bollywood. Self respect and pride should come from the industry itself like spirit of patriotism and nationalism, fellow feeling for all Indians should come from the heart of every Indian. These do not come by changing names, renaming etc. The demand should come from the people themselves in Industry. Unfortunately the present cinema industry makes jokes of Indian spirituality, religions, in the name of entertainment and modern fashion. We the Indian citizens are to be blamed for it as we have permitted these in films. The question is have our country run out of more important issues? What are our leaders up to, so many major issues are pending, people are dying of hunger and unemployment (most common issue) and our eligible leader is wasting his precious time and power on an entertainment industry. The politicians should leave Bollywood alone. They survive on tax payers money and have too much on plate to do something good rather than thinking of name change. Leave Bollywood alone. By Vijaykumar Kamble The financial capital s airport, thousands of offices, railways, hospitals, government facilities and above all, millions of Mumbaikars were saved once again and did not face much power outage even though there was a tripping in Mumbai supply grid due to technical snag in Interconnecting Transformer (ICT) 2 at MSETCL, Kalwa Tie point on June 1, 2018. The main reason for this uninterrupted power supply was the efforts taken by Tata Power to augment the generation efforts of its Trombay Units and Hydro Units that ran at full capacity on June 1 to support Mumbai s requirement. The generating units continue to generate today and bring relief as the crisis continues. After the Kalwa line tripped, Tata Power picked up hydro generation at Khopoli, Bhivpuri and Bhira stations from 144 MW to 400 MW immediately thus helping to control the loading on other ICT in service at Kalwa. Tata Power maintained full hydro generation of 450 MW throughout the day upto 24 hours. Normally hydro generation is kept zero in the night hours and hydro generation is planned only for 8 to 10 hours during day time. In spite of lower lake levels at Tata Power lakes before the onset of monsoon, it maintained higher hydro generation of 9.1 Million Units for the day against plan of 4.8 Million Units. Tata Power picked up 80 MW additional generation on Trombay Unit 7 by emergency drawl of RLNG fuel. Thus Tata Power maintained 900 MW generation by running all the units in Trombay, namely unit 5, which is a coal based unit at full 500 MW, Unit 7, which is a gas based unit at full 180 MW and Unit 8, which is coal based plant at full 250 MW. throughout the day. Network changes were done at Borivali and Saki sub stations of Tata Power to divert addi- 3 June 2018 www.newsband.in Tata Power s Mumbai generation station at Trombay and Hydros support the city of Mumbai at the time of crisis Advocates should make efforts for the Hindu Nation by becoming Fidayeen in judiciary! Adv. Hari Shankar Jain, President, Hindu Front for Justice He was speaking at the inaugural session of National Advocates Convention being held at Shri Vidyadhiraj Meeting Hall in Shri Ramnath Temple here. In this Advocates Conven- tional 150 MW into Borivali which otherwise would have increased the quantum of load shedding. (220KV Salsette- Borivali lines and 220 TPC Saki- RInfra Saki lines were kept open thus helping to divert about 150 MW flow to Borivali tie point). 110KV Dharavi Vikhroli and 110KV Dharavi- Powai lines which were on a scheduled outage for Trombay Salsette project work were brought into service today morning. This has helped in shifting Vikhroli and Powai load (Total About 120 MW load) to Dharavi thus controlling load on MSETCL Kalwa ICTs. Tata Power continues to maintain full generation at all hydro plants as also the Trombay Thermal Power station, thus minimizing load shedding and inconvenience to the Mumbai customers. As the crisis continue, both the plants continue to supply even today at full load to save majority of Mumbaikars from power cuts. Rotational load shedding may continue in some pockets/ areas, till the restoration work gets completed. Since the power requirements of the city are set to accelerate, it is important to look at local power supply reliability from risk perspective as unreliability in power supply could be costly in terms of inconvenience to the people and its huge financial impact. Mumbai s energy requirements will be driven by the development of large-scale projects and an increase in consumption. Mumbai s multiple metro lines, water front development, large SRAs schemes, and others will soon show up with their demand. The city, which is not used to power outages - most of the buildings don t have back-up generators and any disruption makes life difficult for the common man. To provide uninterrupted power, stakeholders responsible for reliable power in the city must ensure long term planning to augment uninterrupted power supply and thereby provide efficient services in Mumbai.
