Curriculum Notes Math: This week, we will continue with Chapter Two, Addition Strategies. Please continue to reinforce addition math facts at home. Also continue to play the math games that have been sent home. Purchasing or creating math flash cards is also a great way to master addition facts. Don t drop your pencil to add using your fingers! Continue to reinforce the dot method of addition. This is an important math strategy that students will naturally phase out when they become more confident in their math facts. The spelling words were sent home last Thursday. Practice the list of short e sight words that are attached. Continue to practice your Dolch sight word booklets. We will continue to focus on fall poems to improve reading fluency. Please have your child practice reading these poems aloud to you. Grammar and Writing: We will continue to focus on sentences. We will discuss types of sentences, the parts of a sentence, word order, and correct punctuation. Encourage your child to practice writing complete sentences at home. Keeping a journal at home or writing a letter to a friend or family member are great ways to make writing fun while also practicing handwriting! Religion: We will complete Chapter Four, Jesus Works Among the People. In this chapter, we learned about John the Baptist, and we have discussed ways we can welcome Jesus. We also learned that Jesus treated all people with respect and shared God s love with everyone. Finally, we will learn that Jesus helped all those in need and reminds us that God watches over us and cares for us always. Our Chapter Three and Four assessment is scheduled for this Thursday. Students may bring their religion books home to reread and discuss these chapters. Please review the study guide with your child.
