On Yom Kippur, we make promises to do our best to make this new year a really great one! We begin by throwing away all of those things that we are sorry for, and we ask God to help us make a fresh start in this new year. This prayer is called Sh ma. It calls us to listen to God s voice! It reminds us that our God is the only God and that our God is ONE. We say shhhh! so that we can hear God s voice.
