Dear Friends, TWENTY-SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME I hope that you will be able to take in the Art Exhibit in our DiGiovanni Hall this weekend, sponsored by the Cambridge Open Studios. A number of our own parishioners are exhibiting. It runs on Saturday and Sunday from noon until 6:00pm both days. Also, I hope you see this in time to remember to join us for the annual Oktoberfest, held this Saturday after the 5:00pm Mass. Thanks to Parish Council Chair Chris Cassani for organizing this event. All are encouraged to join us. I would ask you to mark your calendars for an important prayer service in the Church on Friday, October 12 from 7:30pm- 9:00pm. (Please note starting time change from last week s bulletin.) As many face the hurt, sadness and anger engendered by the abuse crisis in the church, we rightfully speak of changes in policy, structures, and other practical ways forward. As we have and should always remember, at the heart of these infidelities and crimes is sin and a lack of holiness. For that reason, along with many other parishes in the area, we will take time, as clergy and as a whole parish, to pray and ask God s grace for purification, repentance and the renewal of the Church so that it might truly be a Light to all nations, as called for by Vatican II. After consultation with the Parish Liturgy Committee, we ve planned that the evening will include Eucharistic Adoration, readings from Sacred Scripture, music, and recitation of the Rosary, with special mediations written by Bishop Robert Barron for this moment in the Church. I hope you can join us for all or part of the evening. If you are not able, please take some time wherever you are to pray for those most in need of healing. Professor Chip Piatti is again offering his wonderful series of lectures on Sacred Art in Harvard Square. The first one is this Sunday, September 30, at 1:00pm. See the bulletin for more details. We are happy to be hosting the Choir from Limburg, Germany this Sunday for a concert at 3:00pm in the Church. Come to Chip Piatti s lecture, then the concert, then the Art Exhibit. What a wonderful afternoon!! Next week, we will have the annual Blessing of the Animals in honor of St. Francis of Assisi. Bring your pets of any size, shape and family tree on Saturday, October 6 at 9:30am to the courtyard next to the church. Perhaps even our local troop of wild turkeys will make an appearance. The hard facts and news about the repair work in the church is coming into focus. When I have a clear assessment, I will outline all the many factors of planning, time line and finances. God bless, Fr. Kelly SAVE THE DATES! St. Paul's long-standing Committee on "Contemporary Spiritual-&-Public Concerns" gladly presents two upcoming talks and receptions! REVISED: Saturday, October 6 at 7:00 PM, Mary s Room A devotional book presentation by Judith Valente "Mindfulness in the Age of Twitter: What an Ancient Monastic Text Can Teach Us" Sunday, October 28 at 3:00 PM, DiGiovanni Hall A richly illustrated talk by Benjamin F. Patterson "Michelangelo's Last Judgment: Revolutionary in the Renaissance, Breathtaking Today" Questions? Contact Jerome at ForumAttingere@aol.com OKTOBERFEST! Plan on joining us following the 5:00pm Mass on Saturday, September 29, for our annual Oktoberfest celebration. This is an occasion for all ages and all parishioners and their guests. Food, drink, live music and a magical courtyard setting are the order of the night. Suggested donation of $5 per person. Cash bar ST. PAUL S CHOIR SCHOOL & LIMBURGER BOYS CHOIR Please join the boys choir from Limburg in Germany on September 30 at 3:00pm. We look forward very much to hearing this wonderful choir. Admission is free, with a retiring collection. The concert will run under an hour.

SEPTEMBER 30, 2018 CHECK OUT WHAT S HAPPENING AT ST. PAUL S SACRED ART IN HARVARD SQUARE SERIES Join Professor Francesco (Chip) Piatti on Sunday, September 30 at 1:00pm in the Multimedia Room for Sacred Art in Harvard Square: Building the Church: Early Christian Architecture. This program is the first of four that will take place in the next few months. Next Sunday s program, Building the Church, will discuss churches before and after the legalization of Christianity in The Roman Empire, leading up to the form of our own St. Paul's. FEAST OF ST. FRANCIS BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS In celebration of the Feast of St. Francis, join us on Saturday, October 6 after the 9:00am Mass in the Parish courtyard for the Blessing of the Animals. Bring your feathered, scaly and furry friends for this special blessing. FOOD PANTRY The food pantry is well-stocked, thanks to the incredible generosity of a few friends and parishioners. Items that would be particularly helpful are raisins, other dried fruit, nuts, trail mix, herbal and flavored tea, and salad dressing. We are also getting more requests for baby food as we are serving more young families. Finally, we would like to have a day in the upcoming weeks when everyone receives laundry detergent. Although many of us consider laundry a chore, it is hard to imagine not having clean clothes because we don't have money for detergent. If you are able to contribute one or more bottles (or packages of pods), we would be most grateful. PARISHIONER'S FORUM: LISTENING SESSION A listening session by and for parishioners will be held on Sunday, October 14 at 1:00pm in the Multimedia Room, to provide a forum for those members of the Parish who are looking for a way to express their concerns and explore healthy ways to respond to the abuse crisis in the Catholic Church. Dorothy C. Buck, Ph.D. will facilitate. CAMBRIDGE ART OPEN STUDIOS AT ST. PAUL S St. Paul's will participate in the Cambridge Art Open Studios to take place in DiGiovanni Hall on Sat. Sept 29 and Sunday Sept. 30 from 12 noon to 6:00pm. The original motivation for the exhibit was to honor the long distinguished artistic career of Kathleen Clark. Other accomplished artists will join: Glen Graham, Alexander Clark, Maritza Soto, Carolyn O'Hara, and Fr. William Kelly. All are welcome! SANCTUARY LAMP WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 30, 2018 This week s sanctuary lamp shines for Donald Francis Ryan May he rest in peace. He is one of the men who sings 'high' and would be known by sight to many. We wish him very well as he moves to California, and thank him for all his work at St. Paul's over the years. John Robinson, Director of Music ~~~ The precepts of the Lord give joy to the heart. Psalm 19
