Holocaust Survivor Allan Hall, a retired attorney and professor living in Miami, Florida, now travels extensively, sharing his amazing story of perseverance, survival, and inspiration. The junior high students of Corpus Christi School were most fortunate to have the opportunity to hear his presentation and to meet with him. It was a deeply moving and profound experience for our students. Born Adam Horowitz, in Cracow, Poland in 1935, Dr. Hall s tale of survival began on Sept. 6, 1939 as a 4-year-old, when the Nazis invaded Poland. His Jewish family lived a comfortable middle class lifestyle until 1941. They spent the following four years in constant hiding. After the war, they were able to make their way to the United States in 1947. Because his family went into hiding when Hall reached school age, he entered his first classroom at age eleven. He says that adjusting to his new life was not easy. Hall lost his uncle, two aunts, his grandparents, and his mother s entire family to the concentration camps. He gives presentations about his experience to remind people of the relevance of the Holocaust. He says that although tolerance has increased, genocide is still a problem around the world, and we all need to remain vigilant. Congratulations to all of our First Communicants The celebration of the Mass, gathering everyone around the one table, is a reminder that all the faithful have been united into the body of Christ despite all their differences. Unity is the truth and strength of the Christian revolution. Around the Eucharistic table people diverse on account of age, sex, social condition (and) political ideology gather and become one. The Eucharist can never be a private act, reserved to people who have been chosen for their affinity or out of friendship. The Eucharist is (an act of) public worship, which has nothing esoteric (for the select few) or exclusive. Catholics must always be vigilant to ensure that at every celebration of the Eucharist all Catholics are welcome, no matter their differences of nationality, profession, social class or political ideas. Pope Benedict XVI
