THE TENNILLE TESTIMONY Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. Volume 12, Issue 1 May 29, 2016 Rev. Randall Smith -tumc@tennilleumc.org 478.552.7811 Selwyn May - selwynmay@charter.net November 2015 - May 2016 in Review-Tennille UMC - An Active Church Family May 14, 2016 - Relay for Life TUMC Team Our TUMC did a wonderful job Saturday, May 14 at our Washington County Relay for Life event. Our top fund raiser was Linda Deem whose total was a little over $1700. Donations for luminaries, torches and cupcakes in Honor or Memory of special people were the sources of our funds. Congratulations and thanks, Linda!! Thanks also to Mary Moye for donating the decorations for our tent. The theme this year was Fiesta for Life and our tent really followed the theme in spite of very strong winds that made decorating a definite challenge. We are especially proud of Ron Deem who was asked at the last minute to provide the opening prayer. He did a wonderful job!!! The luminaria ceremony was so beautiful and Russ captured this in a picture posted on Margie s Facebook page. The wind, again, made our candles keep going out and caught some of the luminaria paper on fire. We just kept re-lighting candles and kept walking during the beautiful ceremony. Many thanks to Laura Hollie-Mock for all her hard work in making this a success in spite of the very small community participation Saturday night!!! Our team members were: Ron and Linda Deem, Patsy and Dean Blount, Cindy and Randall Smith, Russ Garland, Debbie Story, Catherine Orr, Dorothy Jones, Margie Johnson, Dianne Rogers, Maryann and Jimmy Smith, Leona Rogers, and Gene Davis. Several were not able to attend the actual event this year but were active team members. A special thanks to Ron Deem, Russ Garland, Dean Blount and Debbie Story who brought the items from the church and returned them after the event was concluded at 10pm. May 1, 2016 - TUMC Family Day Our wonderful speaker for Family Day this year, Dr. Laura Taylor Pridemore, was introduced with fond remembrances by Mrs. Lucy Nell Smith.. Laura is the daughter of the late Dr. William Taylor and Mrs. Martha Taylor Lord. Laura is shown here with her husband Scott and daughters Sarah Ann (12) and Katie (8). Laura's sister, Lynn, shared the day with her TUMC family also. Laura and her sister Lynn grew up in this church. Laura reminded us of how special our Tennille UMC Church FAMILY is and what this family meant to her as she was growing up Tennille United Methodist Church Rev. 3 April 18 - Tennille United Methodist Men host District Meeting A delicious low-country boil was served to the 45 men in attendance. The "3 Strands", a great group of young adults with exceptional voices provided the excellent program of music. March 13 - United Methodist Women Day Leona Rogers delivered an inspiring message during the morning worship service. Margaret Alexander was the UMW honoree and was honored with the presence of her family.

4 Easter 2016 - Christ Has Risen! Easter Sunday 2016- Pastor Randall baptizes Gene Davis. Gene's favorite scripture verse - Proverbs Chapter 3: verses 5 & 6. Gene shared his story and his fondness for his church family. In December of 2013 Georgia Ann and I left Tennille Baptist Church. She had attended there for most of 60 years and me for about 65 years. We visited around to various Churches in the county and enjoyed all of them, but Georgia Ann felt led to play the organ for this church. She told me she felt God telling her she needed to be here. We discussed this and decided that we would move our membership to here. We were planning to make the move on December 28,2014 but alas, things did not work out for that. While Georgia Ann was in GRU Hospital in Augusta I told Randall one day that I could not bear to think Georgia Ann might die and us not have an official church home. Randall and members of the congregation made this possible for us. This was something that had worried me for a while and when I spoke to Randall he said he could arrange it. The movement of our membership actually took place in Georgia Ann s hospital room at GRU in Augusta, Ga. She was moved to the WCRMC in Sandersville and passed away while in the ECF unit of the hospital here. A few months after this happened I began trying to locate a record of baptism in my earlier years. The record of it could not be produced by the Tennille Baptist Church. I told Randall I wanted to have it done again so it could be officially recorded along with Georgia Ann s on the membership roll here in this Church. I have seen compassion from this family of church members. These people were there for Georgia Ann and I during our time of need and are still here today. I feel very much at home here. I know I have a lot to learn about Methodism, but you people are good teachers! Easter Sunrise Service at Tabernacle Easter Sunday Morning worship at Tennille UMC

5 Good Friday Service In observance of Good Friday, members of the Tennille UMC, participated in the annual Community Good Friday Walk. Dressed in period costumes, the members of the group, took turns carrying the symbolic Cross of Jesus through the streets of downtown Tennille. The walk concluded with a very moving Good Friday Service at the church. In Loving Memory "Mrs. Anne Bazemore" Eleanor Anne Brooks Bazemore Born: August 18, 1916 Died: March 15, 2016 Anne Bazemore of Tennille, GA passed away on March 15, 2016 on St. Simons Island, GA, where she had resided the last two years with her daughter Anne Bazemore Whelchel and Son in Law, Tom Whelchel. Mrs. Bazemore was born August 18, 1916 in Savannah, GA to Frances Warner Brooks and Francis Bosheille Brooks. After marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Bazemore moved to Brunswick, Georgia. While there she served as the Society Editor of the Brunswick News. She was an avid player and regular member of the Tuesday Bridge Club. Mrs. Bazemore was also a member of the Georgia Power Ambassadors. She was a member of the Tennille Methodist Church where she served faithfully in the mission work of the United Methodist Women's Circle. She volunteered monthly, up into her nineties cooking food for the Bread of Life Ministry, helping to feed needy families in the Washington County area. She was married to Gordon W. Bazemore in 1937 in Macon, GA and they enjoyed 66 years of marriage until his death in March of 2004. She is also predeceased by her parents, and her brother Francis B. 9 NOW Team Reports Nurture - Bread of Life The TUMC Bread of Life program continues to provide meals monthly to approximately 105 recipients in Washington County. The faithful members of TUMC make this happen by planning the meal, purchasing and preparing the food and assembling and delivering the plates. Additional help has come from people from other churches who are interested in our project. TUMC is the only church that provides milk every month. Milk costs approximately $150 per month. Milk is purchased through the BOL fund. This ministry is funded separately from the church budget with special givings designated specifically for this ministry. TUMC was able to gift each family/recipient with towels and soap at Christmas. These items were appreciated by our BOL families. This ministry is a vital one for our community and our church is blessed to be a part of feeding the needy.
