Bookable through your partnership This section of the booklet advertises opportunities that are available to book for your partnership. This allows parishes and groups within your partnership to decide what sort of development you need and when you need it. There are a wide range of events on offer, so there will be something for everyone. Evangelisation Team Equip your Partnership for Missionary Discipleship Every Catholic is a missionary disciple (Pope Francis tells us as much in his encyclical Evangelii Gaudium) but not many of us are sure how to go about it. That s where the Diocesan Evangelisation Team can help. They re offering to visit Partnerships with a half day workshop that will allow people to come together to unpack what it means to be a missionary disciple. As Partnerships begin to look at their future development, evangelisation and outreach have been clearly pointed out as a priority in accordance with the central teaching of the Church. These half - days offer an opportunity for Partnerships to reflect upon the Joy of the Gospel and practical ways that they can begin to both reach out and welcome into their parish communities across their Partnership. The workshops aim to be reflective and offer practical suggestions and resources. If you would like to find out more, or to book their services, please contact Fr Michael Griffiths via adult.formation@diocesehn.org.uk The Ministry of Consolation In response to requests from many of our parishes during Forward Together in Hope, we have been looking at ways in which people in our communities can better support those facing terminal illness and bereavement. After a day devoted to this in 2017, a course on The Ministry of Consolation was developed. It has now been piloted and is ready to share around the Diocese. It runs for five sessions and includes practice in listening skills, input on transition and change and, particularly, on loss and bereavement, personal reflection, interaction with others and practical ideas. It has been very well received by those who have attended the first two courses. If your Partnership would be interested in running the course, or for more information, please contact the Department for Spirituality by email on spirituality@diocesehn.org.uk or by telephone 0191 243 3302. 28

This is a broad community based organising alliance that seeks to improve the lives of those in the region, such as campaigning for the Living Wage (the Diocese is now an accredited member of the Living Wage Foundation), improving mental health provision and preventing hate crime in the region. We believe that developing leaders is a key part of Tyne and Wear Citizens, so the following training is available to you. We are hosting two days of training in September for members and we plan to host this as both two consecutive days and as an evening course. There will also be a six day training course in Leeds for Tyne and Wear Citizens on 7th 12th October 2018. If you would like further details on any of the training, please contact Fr Chris Hughes by email chris1707hughes@live.co.uk or by telephone on 0191 257 5801. Catholic Social Teaching Catholic Social Teaching (CST) touches upon many different aspects of life, from the individual and family to international development, from how we think of those who are homeless to how we care for the environment, and how we should shop and consume to the right of workers and the dignity of work. It is based on four principles: 1. Human Dignity: Every person has equal value and dignity, regardless of circumstances. 2. The Common Good: The conditions of any society should allow all to participate and live a fully human life. 3. Solidarity: We are all members of one human family and we are called to work for the elimination of injustices and inequality. 4. Subsidiarity: Generally speaking, decisions should be made at the lowest level, by people who are directly affected by them. If you would like to know more about Catholic Social Teaching, there is a CST group in the Diocese that can help. We are willing to do talks after mass, to parish or partnership groups or to offer advice on study of CST. For more information, please email Louise Harrison maryalicelouise@outlook.com 29
