ORDO THE ORDER OF THE HOLY CROSS The Ordo of the Order of the Holy Cross is the official calendar of feasts and fasts observed in our community along with their rank or degree of solemnity. Directions or references, when given, refer to A Monastic Breviary (West Park, NY: Holy Cross Publications, 1976). Observances listed as First Class Feasts begin with First Vespers on the preceding evening and generally take precedence over all other observances. Second Class Feasts do not have a First Vespers; their Second Vespers takes precedence over the Saturday Vespers preceding an ordinary Sunday. Third Class Feasts are observed with their own office, taken either from the Proper or Common of Saints, as directed. Fourth Class Feasts do not have their own office but may be commemorated at Matins and Vespers or observed at the Eucharist of the day. For further details refer to the Introduction to A Monastic Breviary. Our Customal directs: Houses may adjust third and fourth class feasts to meet local needs and desires. Observances limited to the various countries or ecclesiastical provinces in which the Order is established are listed without rank. Local communities or households will need to determine how they wish to observe them. Collects for the various feasts and the lectionary readings for the Eucharist may be taken from the official formularies of the local church, whether Lesser Feasts and Fasts or Holy Women, Holy Men in the Episcopal Church or their equivalents as authorized in the Anglican Church of Canada or the Church in the Province of South Africa. The Apostles Creed is not said at Matins on Sundays or on other feasts when the Creed is said the Eucharist, which is generally all First and Second Class Feasts. A table of abbreviations used in the Ordo can be found at the end of the document.

Collect of All Saints of the Benedictine Family [March 21] We give you thanks, almighty God, for the Saints of the Benedictine family: and we pray that the zeal of the holy monks and nuns of the ages may inspire us to holiness of life; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit one God, now and forever. Amen.
