About the Concert: "O Bullayah" - a tribute in dance to a Saint who danced SUFI KATHAK AND QAWWALI FROM PUNJAB THIS UNIQUE CONCERT RE-LIVES THROUGH CLASSICAL DANCE, THE INTANGIBLE HERITAGE OF SUFI TRADITIONS OF PUNJAB AND THE POETRY OF BABA BULLEH SHAH AS NEVER SEEN BEFORE Concert Featured An Audio Visual on the life and times and the social relevance of poetry of Baba Bulleh Shah, as never before seen visuals of music and dance from the shrine of Baba Bulleh Shah at Kasoor, Punjab, Pakistan Sufi Kathak on the poetry of Baba Bulleh Shah, re-creating the dance of the mystics Poetry of Baba Bulleh Shah sung by traditional Qawwals from Punjab This year Sufi Kathak Foundation, under The 22 Khwaja Series presented a tribute to Baba Bulleh Shah, whose Shrine rests in Kasur, Pakistan. O' Bullayah is a unique production, conceived and conceptualized by Manjari Chaturvedi, that explores as a creative expression through dance, the life and messages of Baba Bulleh Shah, for the first time. After a personal research of many years on dance of the mystics, Manjari uses the language of Sufi Kathak to reach out to people with the thoughts penned down by the erstwhile Sufi Master. The most popular poetry by him till date remains "Tere Ishq Nachaya" a reference about dance of surrender in love. The world knows other Sufi poets, who wrote great poetry on love, it is the time to take the Sufi poetry of Punjab to the world and explore the expression of love, surrender, ecstasy, separation, a wide range of emotions expressed in words, music, dance. Baba Bulleh Shah is one poet who wrote in complete surrender of love, at times singing, at times dancing, at times dressed as a woman, he also became the voice of the woman in Punjab. This production finds its relevance especially in recent times when humanity is divided in so many divisions. Bulleh Shah who chose to renounce man-made differences

such as caste and community and served as a universal figure. He is a man of God but a poet of the people. His language has the rhythm of common speech and he blends poetry and music in memorable compositions that go straight to the heart. Concert featured Qawwals from Punjab and Sufi Kathak danseuse Manjari Chaturvedi, the approximately 75 minutes concert brought to life the profound poetry of Baba Bulleh Shah. Manjari Chaturvedi portrayed the Qawwali s of Baba Bulleh Shah along with the musicians. The evening started with the audio visuals from the shrine of Baba Bulleh Shah, with a narrative on the life and times of Baba Bulleh Shah, which was taken forward by the powerful voices of Punjab, by Janab Ranjhan Ali with the poetry ni main jana jogi de naal.. which was further enhanced by the Sufi Kathak by Manjari Chaturvedi, who reflected the emotions as encapsulated in the essence of Sufiana verses through her dance, body movements, agile foot works and gestures to bring alive the mythical wisdom and serenity of mystic utterances of Baba Bulleh Shah. Sufi Kathak along with the audio visuals by Amit Mehra in these Qawwalis led to the uninterrupted applause from the audience in each and every composition performed afterwards. The repertoire of Qawwals comprised of compositions such as tere ishq nachaya, ghunghat chuk oh sajna and so on, which encapsulated the audience in a spiritual trance. More than 250 audience were present until the end of the performances, who then greeted the performers with a standing ovation. For most listeners it was a memorable experience of Sufi Kathak by Ms. Manjari Chaturvedi on poetry of Baba Bulleh Shah sung by Janaab Ranjhan Ali was a mystical experience in itself.
