ST. JOSEPH CHURCH POQUONOCK Introduction to the Liturgy of the Day Today we continue our brief series of readings from John s Gospel. Jesus converses with the crowd, which badgers him for signs that he is the One sent by God. In our own times, people still long for signs, for certainty. We may not be able to give them signs, but we can pray for the grace to show them by our lives that God is indeed Lord of all. Let us make that our prayer today. THE EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME The Rite of Christian initiation for Adults (RCIA) RCIA is a program designed for individuals who desire to be received into full communion with the Catholic Church. It is intended for individuals who have not been baptized, or have been validly baptized in another Christian denomination, or individuals who were baptized in the Catholic Church but never received the sacraments of Confirmation and the Eucharist. Catholics who received the sacrament of the Eucharist but not the sacrament of Confirmation should contact the Office of Religious Education for information regarding its Confirmation Preparation Program. The RCIA Program for Saint Gabriel/Saint Joseph will begin in October. Those interested in being received into the Catholic Church in Spring 2016 should contact the Rectory at either parish by mid-september Adult Confirmation Preparation Program Every Spring and Fall the Archdiocesan Office of Religious Education provides classes for adults who have been baptized and received First Communion, but wish to receive the sacrament of Confirmation. These classes run for 6 weeks and will be held in three locations: Saint Mark the Evangelist, West Hartford, Saint Bridget, Cheshire and Saint Peter School, Torrington. Classes are held from 7 to 9pm. If you would like the schedule of dates and locations or have questions concerning the Confirmation preparation classes, please call the Archdiocese of Hartford at 860-242-5573, or email jill.costa@aohct.org. CATHOLIC SCHOOL(S) SUBSIDY Just a reminder to all families with children attending Catholic parochial schools or Catholic high schools this Fall that in order to qualify for the $250 per child subsidy from Saint Joseph Parish to the Catholic school, your family: must be registered with Saint Joseph Parish and be an active participant in the life of worship and faith; use the parish budget envelopes this is the only means that the parish has of identifying your family s contributions; must financially support the parish in a meaningful way so that the subsidy that is provided to the school (s) represents a portion of the funds you have provided in support of your parish. The parish is asked to forward the subsidy to the school(s) in October, therefore by the end of September your family s recorded contributions must exceed the amount of the subsidy requested. Families desirous of requesting a parish subsidy in the fall are asked to take special note of the above criteria. Do You Believe Fall Series The Fall Sessions of Do You Believe will begin Wednesday September 23 rd at 10:30 a.m. Each one hour session will be held in Fr. Doherty Hall of St Joseph Church.
