Organ Restoration Committee s role was discussed and members were challenged to consider the following items: What is the future of worship at OELC in the next 10, 20, 30 years.

What is the future of organ music and its role in worship in the next 10, 20,30 years What is the future or ability to find and attract trained organists to play in 10, 20, 30 yrs. What are the alternate monetary needs for capital items in the church: roof, furnace, etc. The original investment of this congregation of this beautiful piece of equipment and how should we maintain it. (1972) Dan presented: A detailed report of the history of the organ The problems we are currently experiencing with the organ Possible solutions and quotes/bids for repair o $120,000 for complete rebuild of organ o Will continue with twice yearly tuning of organ regardless of whatever repairs are done going forward Other items of discussion: Electronic Organ: o Approximate cost: $70,000 to $80,000 o Life time of electronic organ: 15-20 years Communication with congregation/council on progress of committee o Frans and Denny will convey information to both council and/or congregation Written or verbal information to keep congregation informed of progress and to get input One meeting scheduled for Dan to demonstrate use of, and problems with the organ Contacting additional vendors for opinions and quotes/bids Are benefactors available? o No grants available Options: o Rebuild o Do nothing o Something in between Assignments:

Reach out to our congregational members with questions and for their input: o Historic preservation o Direction of organ use in the future of our congregation o Worship preference ideas /styles o Solution ideas Visit other churches: seeing what is used in their worship service Naomi: will check with our synod for suggestions o Dave Lundberg asked Dan Newman what he thought the future looked like for finding an organist. Dan responded it s not easy but not black either B. Endowment. Eric Rogness The "cliff-notes" of the discussion around scholarship applicants: It was a productive discussion about the applicants. 9 applicants 7 who met all of the requirements for even the minimum scholarship (Hunter and Andrew indicated that they had little to no involvement in church during HS) 5 who showed significant involvement in church activities. It was decided, based on the scholarship outline, to award the amounts listed. Because 5 were very involved church activities and awarding each the amount commiserate with the requirements they achieved, a motion was made to increase the $10k limit up to $13k. o Note, we discussed leaving the $10k cap in place and reducing the amount of each award. We felt it was more appropriate to limit the number of awards and increase the cap since we had 5 candidates who were very close in levels of activity in church and school. Award Recipients: 1) Lilyanne Bollinger-$2,000 2) Ethan Dahl-$3,000 3) Madeline Kempf-$3,000 4) Andrea Kubishak-$3,000 5) Caroline Tietjens-$2,000 Having more applicants than award money available made it a difficult decision. Awards will be presented at the Senior Breakfast on May 20 C. Worship Committee. Dave Lundberg

May 6 Vern Larson will be an assisting minister. Others may be asked to do the same. SHM will sing this summer with a date to be determined. Worship committee talked about live streaming the worship service The noisy offering for April through August will go to AV fund (6.71)***Motion was made by Dave Lundberg and seconded by Erin Everson. Motion carried. D. Personnel. Pastor Terry Lorenz There were a few issues with Janitorial staff as to who was supposed to be taking care of what. Pastor just asked Nikki to take care of the areas of concern. Lori Reynolds asked if it would be ok if Curt was at the church while she was there. Pastor Terry said that it wasn t a problem. VII. OLD BUSINESS A. Temple Talk. Traci Loonstra After the temple talk in April member asked to have more specific numbers and information in the minutes. o Council is going to put more detailed committee reports and information in the council minutes. B. Chapel Planning. Rosemary Twesme sent pictures of a chapel that her daughter attends for our congregation to look at. Carol Dodge asked if the family was set on having a chapel? Pastor had talked to Donna and she suggested a chapel in memory of her parents but if the congregation had any other ideas she would entertain them. A few other ideas were brought up but the family decided on the chapel o Some members of the congregation were concerned that if we don t have money to pay bills how can we build a chapel? Pastor responded it was a gift from a family that wanted it to be in memory of their parents not for it to go to pay bills. ***Motion was made by Eric Rogness and seconded by Denny Lindell that we accept the money from the Dahl family to be used for a chapel. Motion carried. o Donna is going to send a check for $20,000 now and when the chapel is finished she will send the remaining balance. Council is going to keep the congregation update with the progress of the chapel. C. 125 th Anniversary.
