OUR HISTORY Since our start in May of 1973, Bannockburn has existed to share the truth of the gospel, demonstrating God s love and communicating His written Word with every man, woman and child possible. Founded by Pastor James Abington and 136 others, Bannockburn s Spirit-led mission and sound biblical teaching advanced a once small congregation located in the pastures of Brodie Lane to explode into the largest Baptist church in south Austin. As Austin has grown so, too, has Bannockburn. Hallmarks of our church include worship, prayer, discipleship, and missional service and these have flourished under each Senior Pastor s leadership. Bannockburn s desire to take the Gospel beyond south Austin led to our first multisite campus in Dripping Springs in 2012. Regardless of location, Bannockburn remains passionate to see others grow in their relationship with Jesus, each other, and their community. Bannockburn called James W. Abington as our first pastor. Brother Jim served as Senior Pastor for almost 30 years until April 29, 2003, when God called him to his heavenly home. A prayer-bathed foundation, sound Biblical preaching, and a Spirit-led ministry characterized Brother Jim s leadership. On April 4, 2004, the Pastor Selection Team recommended calling Pastor Ryan Rush as the church s second Senior Pastor. The church voted to call Pastor Ryan as Senior Pastor, and he began serving the next day! He served Bannockburn faithfully for 10 years until he was called to Kingsland Baptist Church in Katy, Texas.

WHAT WE BELIEVE Bannockburn Baptist Church supports the association and state convention affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. We ascribe to the statement of faith found in the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message (www.sbc.net/bfm2000/bfm2000.asp). THE SCRIPTURES GOD CHRIST THE HOLY SPIRIT HUMANITY SALVATION CHRISTIAN LIFE We believe the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God and men were moved by the Spirit of God to write the very words of Scripture. Therefore, we believe the Bible is without error. We believe in one God who exists in three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit; yet, there is only one God. We believe that Jesus Christ is the second member of the Trinity (the Son of God) who became flesh to reveal God to humanity and be the Savior of His world. The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make humanity aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for transformation through understanding of spiritual truth and guidance in doing good. Every Christian should seek to live daily under the Spirit s control. We believe that all people were created in the image of God to have fellowship with Him, but became alienated in that relationship through sinful disobedience. As a result, people are incapable of regaining a right relationship with God through their own efforts. We believe that the blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the sole basis for the forgiveness of sin. Therefore, God freely offers salvation to those who place their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as sufficient payment for their sin. We believe all Christians should live for Christ and not for themselves. By obedience to the Word of God and daily yielding to the Spirit of God, every believer should mature spiritually and be conformed to the image of Christ.

CHURCH ORDINANCES We believe the Church is the body of Christ, of which Jesus Christ is the head. The members of the Church are those who have trusted by faith the finished work of Christ. The purpose of the Church is to glorify God by loving Him and by making Him known to the lost world. We believe Christ instituted the ordinances of the Church, which are Baptism and the Lord s Supper. Baptism is immersion in water after individuals have trusted Christ as their Savior. It does not merit salvation, but is an outward symbol of our identification with Christ and His Body, the Church, following salvation. The Lord s Supper is a commemoration of Jesus death until He comes again; the elements being used as emblems of His body and blood. The Lord s Supper is open to all selfexamined believers regardless of church affiliation.

And Jesus came and said to them, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. Matthew 28:18-20 OUR MISSION (WHAT WE DO) We exist to lead people to become fully-devoted followers of Jesus Christ. OUR VALUES (WHO WE ARE) Jesus is center Everyone matters Authenticity is powerful Transformation is possible Everyone is needed Methods are flexible Multiplication is vital We are about a relationship with Jesus, not a religion. (Colossians 1:17) We believe everyone matters because everyone matters to God. (Genesis 1:27) We are a place where it s ok to not be ok. (1 Peter 1:22) We believe anyone can change because all things are possible with God. (Romans 12:2) We are contributors, not consumers. (Romans 12:4-5) We share timeless truths of the Gospel in an ever changing culture. (1 Corinthians 9:19) We gain by losing and grow through planting.
