Saintly News January 10, 2019 Dear Parents, Welcome Back!! We hope your family enjoyed a restful, peaceful and rejuvenating Christmas Break! We re back at it in 2019! MAP testing will be going on this week and next. This is our second benchmarking period and we can t wait to see our students growth since the beginning of the school year! This is one of the most rewarding parts of our job as teachers! Encourage your child to take his/her time on the test and try their hardest! Get them plenty of rest and a well-balanced breakfast to set them up for success!!! Please mark your calendars for Sunday, January 27 th from 1:30-3:00!! We will host our winter Open House on that day. Word of mouth and your own testimonials about your love for our IHM School is the BEST way to bring in new families! If you have a neighbor, friend or relative that may potentially be interested in our school or preschool, please personally invite them to come to our Open House. They can get a personal tour, meet faculty/administration, see our STEAM lab in the works, meet PTO members, meet some IHM students and even hear about the extra-curricular activities offered for students at IHM. If there is anyone you know of that we can personally reach out to from the school, please let us know and we d be happy to invite them. Along with the Open House on January 27 th, our school is sponsoring the 12:30 Mass that day. We will be asking students to take an active role in the Mass by being part of the Welcoming Committee and taking up the gifts. Our IHM Choir will also sing that Mass, as well. Please remember to have your child bring his/her envelope; they can list a good deed, prayers that are offered or money they have earned. We want the students to know that it isn t just money that makes a difference. Mark your calendar for the following 12:30 Masses each month: Feb.24 th, March 31 st, April 21 st and May 18 th. Your children can turn in their envelope at any Mass each week, but these will be the Masses with our IHM Choir and IHM students taking part in the Mass. We are hoping that by singing the songs used at school on Sunday, our students and their families will share in the joy that we feel at our weekly school Masses. Hope to see you there! God Bless Your Day, Nancy & Kristin 1

From the Counselor s Corner Family Resolutions for the New Year We often think of New Year s Resolutions as being something for the individual. Goals like losing weight or learning a new skill typically come to mind. But have you ever considered creating New Year s Resolutions for your whole family? Family goals can be an important part of keeping your household on track. They help parents keep their focus on the family as a whole while helping children learn to work with others towards a common goal. Ultimately, family goal setting brings families closer and enriches family life. There s a wide variety of goals suitable for families. Examples include healthier eating, committing to family meals (with no TV!) and weekly Mass attendance. I also encourage you to include one very important goal pray together. It may be awkward at first, but prayer brings the focus of the family on God and puts everything else in perspective. How can you start praying as a family? First, ask your spouse and children for ideas on when and how you will pray together. Ideas might include: praying the blessing before meals, praying together at bedtime, saying a morning prayer, praying an Our Father together, or praying the rosary the ideas are endless Another family goal I encourage you to set is committing to weekly Mass attendance. Mass affords us the opportunity to be in the living presence of Christ, and receiving the Eucharist strengthens our charity and wipes away our venial sins. Making a family commitment to pray together and going to Mass can strengthen your family. When we pray as a family, our children learn how to pray and their faith grows. Our children feel more secure and families become closer. Our relationship with Jesus becomes stronger. When we have a relationship with Jesus and receive the Eucharist, we break the bonds of destructive behaviors and receive grace to strengthen ourselves and our families. With all these good great reasons to add prayer and Mass time to your family goals, what are you waiting for? Happy New Year! 5
