Second Sunday of Advent December 9, 2018 needs corn flour (Maseca), oil, and sugar The of Giving needs canned soup and canned meat
First Sunday of Advent My Dear Parishioners, In celebrating the second week of Advent, we are introduced to John the Baptist, whose father was Zechariah and whose mother was Elizabeth, Mary s cousin. John the Baptist is the bridge between the Old Testament and the New Testament. Just as a herald would go before a King or some other dignitary to alert the inhabitants of a city that they needed to prepare for the arrival of the dignitary, John the Baptist heralded Jesus ministry. His cry in the desert was, Prepare the way of the Lord and make straight his paths. Luke 3:4. Advent is about preparing. I must ask myself, What do I need to do to be ready, ready for Christ when he comes again? Even more importantly, I also must ask myself, Am I now living in accord with the Gospel I profess? I hope that the St. Theresa community of faithful ask themselves these same questions in their Advent preparations. I hope that these preparations involve our looking at our own gifts and skills and how those gifts and skills might be used, not only during Advent, but also throughout the year. This weekend we have placed on your chairs a card that lists gifts and skills that are needed by the servant church here at St. Theresa in Memorial Park. Please prayerfully consider what gift or skill you can offer, complete the personal information portion of the card, and check the appropriate box(es). If you have a gift or a skill that is not listed, please fill it in. We will collect the cards during Mass. If you find that you need longer prayerful consideration, you can find the form on St. Theresa s website at www.sttheresa.cc/gift-sunday, and submit it online. We will contact you to discuss your offering of gifts and skills, and to invite you to a gathering in the Fellowship Hall on Sunday January 6 th after the 10.00 a.m. Mass. At this gathering, we will give you the opportunity to discuss with us how and how often you might be able to use your personal gifts in service to the parish, to the wider church and the community. If you are unable to attend the January 6 th gathering, we will arrange a convenient date to meet with you to discuss your response. With every good wish, Fr. Phil Lloyd, Pastor
